hardware related proposal.

43S could have USB OTG?

thanks
While the CPU is technically capable of USB OTG, the PCB doesn't power anything attached to USB.

I'm wondering why you cannot reassign ON and OFF to where there are today for the DM42 as the HW will support it:

... I'm wondering if the ON key location at the bottom right is compatible with the current DM42 board design or if it will require a new PCB?
This was clarified really early. Michael confirmed it's compatible with the current PCB.
If I'd buy the 43s it would be rather confusing to me to have the 42 and 43 lying side by side with a totally different numeric keypad.

The same happened to people buying an HP-42S after an HP-41Cx. There were no casualties reported though.

I assume anybody observing such casualties never understood the cause, and by extension where to report it... ;)

No casualties... except likely some lost sales of the 42S to 41C/CV/CX owners who decided the benefits of the new model weren't worth the irksomeness of continually readjusting to a keyboard that had changed in the most critical area. :D

I'm confident HP did some investigations before changing the keyboard layouts with the launch of Pioneers -- assume the gains by following a logical order of operators outweighed the losses by hidebound traditionalists. Of course, this is my assumption only. YAMV

I'm not. Big companies often do bizarre things for no intelligible reason.

In another thread of this forum somebody pointed that:

The there is also the issue of the manual, which for the 34S was never as source under the GPL and the shipped binary version is now quite dated....
The other day in this very same thread, an image was posted showing what seemed to be a capture of a draft of the wp43s manual. It had a green background similar to the blue background of the "official" PDF version of the v3.3 wp34s manual. As, in the case of the wp34s, such blue background was used to discourage printing of the PDF, I assumed that the wp43s manual will follow the same policy about its distribution, that is: non-free non-printable PDF plus printed (obviously non-free) volume.

Can anybody confirm if this will be the distribution policy of the wp43s manual?

Regards.

FYI, the present state of the manual is DRAFT still. Though also some earlier versions were distributed to some people hoping to get some support for the project -- but in vain. These drafts had and have to be protected some way.

So far, more than 500 pages were written by one person alone. Standard is at least equivalent to the most recent edition of the WP34S manual (pictures, graphics, examples, and more). I don't know yet whether he's willing to give this away for free. Personally, I don't remember any free books of similar volume.

Christoph Schiller's "Motion Mountain" comes to mind. A 480+ MB download containing 6 volumes, for a total of 2600+ pages, that is still free. Its typesetting being also superb.
