On a well known other calculator forum grsbanks mentioned there might be a DM42L featuring a 2-line display only. Although this seems being a very early announcement I'd like to vote against such an endeavour. IMHO this would be a major step back.
The only reason in favor of it would be a significantly lower price - e.g. like the one of the DM15L. Though once somebody has experienced the DM42 I doubt this body will be willing to step back from it.
Furthermore I strongly vote for publishing news about the SwissMicros line of calculators on this very forum here first.
Just my 20m€ as usual.
DM42L ?!?
Re: DM42L ?!?
Hi,
The only thing that counts is sales/business! No?
DM42L can hit the market if there is a business case for it AND it doesn't jeopardise DM42 sales.
Wait until the DM42 R&D investment on new HW and SW is covered and we shall see...
Edit : but you are right, an early announcement of DM42L is not good for DM42 sales.

Re: DM42L ?!?
I'd love a DM42L because I'd prefer the form factor. To my knowledge, there's been no official confirmation or denial of its future. Michael has been very covert about it, but it has been discussed here.

Hmmh, a quick search for DM42L resulted in a total of 18 posts on this forum. 3 of those are written by you.keithdalby wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2017 5:36 pmI'd love a DM42L because I'd prefer the form factor. Oh, here, I'd like a 42 l as well.
A credit card sized one would be even more amazing

First there was the DM15, then DM15L and of course all the siblings.
Then we made a proof of concept of a Free42 based calculator in the housing as the Voyager series. This housing turned out to be insufficient for our needs. So we made a portrait oriented housing and an eco-system around it, i.e. the electronics, the OS, all the tools, etc.
The step back from the new portrait oriented housing to the previous housing should be rather easy. And as well from there to the credit card sized format ...
These are not announcements, these are the plans if all goes well.
Don't ask me when this will happen. We do what we can and we try hard doing well what we do.

Michael, thanks for clarifying. Please see the OP why this thread was started.
Wishing you success!

Re: DM42L ?!?
Precisely.
The information given was simply confirmation of plans that multiple people had heard "through the grapevine" and were therefore not exactly what could be called a secret. Nor could they in any way be construed as a product announcement.
There are only 10 kinds of people in the world: those who understand binary and those who do not.
