I haven't done anything requiring such fine motor skills for a while. Even with my progressive glasses, I needed a lot of light to see clearly. I guess I found another disadvantage of pushing 50! (chuckle) I was wishing I had those eyeglasses with binocular loupes that you see surgeons wear. I am attaching pictures of the finished product. Note to others: don't print on sticky paper on the wrong side and have to do it all over again. :)

Pics on imgur because too big for here.
It's even better if you go over all the cut edges of the cardboard with a black marker. Of course, with a blue and a yellow one for the shift keys.

What a great idea, thanks!

Not wanting to sound out of line, but wasn't there at least on some HP calculators, the feature that a 'long press' would bring out a message on the display (indicating what function was about to be launched) and if the press was kept longer, the function call was cancelled?
This cancellation on long press is even emulated on the Free42 programs, by the way.
This behaviour implies that the function has to be launched on the key release, not on the key press.
The HP-41C has a long-press feature:

The long-press function of the 41C is implemented in the WP43, so I'm not sure what you're getting at. Please do not remove it.
The relavant point here is that the long-press function is always NOP.
I'm not quite sure, but I think the 43C cycles through the shifted functions of the pressed key before finally resting on NOP, too.

Correct, for the FN keys, as well as the math keys in the top 3 rows.

A 'long press to notify' does not count as a different function. It is STILL the same function being launched on key release (unless it is kept until the call is cancelled).

I read what you quoted from the HP-41C. You will get the same from the WP43S:

Whenever you press a key, its current assignment will be displayed (in USER mode, this may deviate from what is printed on the keyboard). When you release it, this function will be executed. Holding it down for more than 1s will nullify the function. Please compare the WP43S Owner's Manual, p. 300.

Hi everyone,

I came here to pursuade myself to by a DM42 but noticed that maybe a new model (DM43) is coming. Do you have a planned release date because depending on that I may wait for that instead.

Thanks

There is no planned release date for the 43S model.

The software is still being developed.

However, if desired, you can get the experience of the calculator using an emulator on a Windows system.
There may be Mac emulator as well.

If you do purchase a DM42, the software is available to run on the platform as well.

In addition to ctrclckws' statement:
WP43S is a hobbyists's project, thus there are no planned dates. What's available so far: calculating with integers, angles, dates, and times, with real and complex numbers, vectors, and matrices. Programming, integrating, and solving need some more time. See the draft manuals available. Feel free to check the present state of the software either with said simulator -- or on a DM42 but you will need some keytop stickers and an overlay for this experience there.

Enjoy! And should you discover something deviating from your expectations, please tell us. 8-)
