I ended up butchering a USB cable like the photos, but on all four sides, and it goes completely into the socket now. My DM42 never needed such barbaric cable modifications, so I wasn't expecting different from the DM41X (the port is actually better aligned in the case opening than the DM42). Seems like it's working reliably enough this way.
Now that I look more carefully, it seems that the modified plug on mine was still contacting the DM41X case before the connector was fully inserted into the USB port. So, I've removed more material, and now there is a clear gap on all sides between the plug and case with it fully inserted into the port. Hopefully, this is the last of this problem, which has led to data loss and corruption.

These are the cables I use, never had an issue connecting to any peripheral, including a DM42 and a DM41X.

Unless the micro USB connector on the calculator side of those cables is somehow longer than normal, then it seems that you would have the same problem of the connector fully seating in the USB port and making a good connection. Normally, the port is flush with the case, but on the DM42 and DM41X they are recessed, such that the plug presses against the case before the connector is fully seated.

I have some cables where the metal portion, not covered by the insulation material is longer. The cables for my Samsung phones generally have a shorter metal portion.

What part of
including a DM42 and a DM41X.

FWIW, these are the cables I purchased on Amazon:

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01 ... UTF8&psc=1

These have worked perfectly from the get-go with my beta DM41X.

I switch between my Prime micro-USB cable and these cables I found on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01JPDTZXK

Braided cord (so no twisting) and the small/thin head lets them fit tightly on both DM41X/DM42 models (6 devices to date), and all other calcs. that use micro-USB.

Bonus - They were $5.98 for 3 cables.

Today it disconnected again and I lost all my OFFIMG screens. When I looked for them on my pc, they had been erased there as well. Please tell me again where I can find all the FAT disk contents for the DM41X. Thanks.
