[DM10L] The wait is over!
[DM10L] The wait is over!
Folks, we have some great news that was long in the making (just like the calculators...)
The DM10L units have dropped in Switzerland and are ready to be snapped up!
You can place your orders here: https://www.swissmicros.com/order.php?special=dm10l
With this being a Collector's Edition, you can choose which serial number you would like within availability. Please note that those of you who expressed an interest in this run of machines early on, when the idea was thrown into the arena, get first choice. Otherwise, it's on a first come first served basis.
When you place your order, there's a field where you can enter comments. Please give us your first, second and third choice of serial number in case the one you want is already taken, or you can say something like "lowest possible."
Thank you for your patience waiting for these.
There are only 10 kinds of people in the world: those who understand binary and those who do not.
Re: [DM10L] The wait is over!
I was able to complete my purchase, but was unable to specify my serial number request. I simply want the lowest available. Thanks! - Evan
Re: [DM10L] The wait is over!
Sorry if this was discussed earlier already, but does the 10L feature a little bit more program memory than the original HP-10C? IMHO, the 10C was a pretty clean design (would have been even cleaner with its secondary functions on its key fronts) but suffered severely under its very limited programmability. Assuming the 10L has the same innards as any other calculator of this series, fulfilling this wish shouldn't be a problem (be it with a software update or even earlier).
WP43 SN00000, 34S, and 31S for obvious reasons; HP-35, 45, ..., 35S, 15CE, DM16L S/N# 00093, DM42β SN:00041

If the 10C allows absolute addressing rather than just to a label, could there be a limitation as far as jumps to locations if the address has to be longer to reach higher memory locations? That might break older programs.Walter wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2020 4:53 pmSorry if this was discussed earlier already, but does the 10L feature a little bit more program memory than the original HP-10C? Re: [DM10L] The wait is over!
The HP-10C/DM10L cannot accommodate more than 79 program steps. The reason for this is the GTO nn program step structure which is basically a single byte. 0x00 is GTO 00, 0x01 is GTO 01, 0x10 is GTO 10 etc. up to 0x79, which is GTO 79. That's 80 possible opcodes gone out of the 256 possible values of a byte. Given that the 10C also does register arithmetic (STO+, STO- etc) that's another 40 opcodes gone, plus another 20 for STO and RCL, another 30 for FIX, SCI and ENG and that's already 170 gone leaving only 86 for the rest of the functions.toml_12953 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2020 5:52 pmIf the 10C allows absolute addressing rather than just to a label, could there be a limitation as far as jumps to locations if the address has to be longer to reach higher memory locations? Sorry, but it can't be done. Even if we did give the virtual machine more memory, it wouldn't be able to address it because it only does GTO to absolute addresses and it doesn't do indirect register addressing (à la RCL IND 0, for example).

Re: [DM10L] The wait is over!
Thanks for the quick answer. Since I already own an HP-10C, I won't acquire a DM10L.grsbanks wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2020 6:29 pmThe HP-10C/DM10L cannot accommodate more than 79 program steps. ... Re: [DM10L] The wait is over!
Michael, thank you for delivering on your commitment to make this calculator available. You are clearly a man of your word. I have ordered my first DM10L. A second unit will surely follow.
Well done,
Kim

Re: [DM10L] The wait is over!
My commitment was for two DM10L units and they have been ordered with another DM16L five minutes ago.
Thank you!
