Possibility for a financial calculator? (apart from the DM12)

Post by jthole »

This evening, I was "playing" with the 17Bii+ app on my iPhone, made by a company called RLM Tools. Despite the fact that I already have a HP 17Bii (which is quickly becoming my favourite calculator), would it be possible to see if SwissMicros and RLM could team to get the RLM 17Bii+ logic on the DM42 hardware? Maybe even calling it a DM17 ;) FYI; the RLM app is a kind of merge between the 17Bii and 19Bii, with some additional functions.

That would be a killer calculator, especially if the limitations of the current HP 17Bii+ could be avoided. And in fact, the 17Bii+ app by RLM already makes use of a four line display, and the keyboard stays very close to the Pioneer layout ... at match made in heaven with SwissMicros, I would say!

I'd be interested to hear your opinion of course ... thanks!

I hope they won't waste energies on lesser projects. It's a two men business, after all. :|

It's only a waste of time if you're not personally interested in it. That said, the 17-series would be a challenge, since it's from an era when HP was copyrighting their ROMs, and 3rd party solutions are closed source.

Of course I'm not interested in it, otherwise my reply would be different.
Furthermore there's plenty of 17B/Bii available for pennies.

And exactly so: it is copyrighted and I wonder how RLM succeded in simulating it.

... lesser projects...
Ouch - hope it's just me reading this wrong... :-/

Anyway, in time, perhaps the DM42 might prove to be a platform for open source, financial calculator projects that interested souls might venture into?

A business/financial is, well... boring.

Now, where is my DM 41X? Then you can have anything you want.
