I understand that the underlying program will be an emulator of the HP41CX so it will be 99.99% similar in programming to the original HP41CX.
But the hardware platform, screen and keyboard, using DM42 platform will be different from original HP41CX.

So the question is...
Will DM41X customers be mainly :
- HP41 users that will not find the same screen but still ask for same exact keyboard 👍 :)
- DM42 users or NEW users interested in a modern HP41CX that will accept DM42 or any keyboard 🤔 :)

I am in the second category... and will be happy with a "close to DM42" layout...
I am in the first camp. Don't fool yourself: new users of a reissue of a 40+ y.o. calculator are highly unlikely. Users of the DM42... well they already have the DM42! Do they really need something externally alike, otherwise they will be confused and won't use the DM41X?

I don't think so but, of course, this is only my take, so... ;)

But, DM41X will be full Swissmicros property because they own 100% of the IP. So only David and Michael will be able to provide different layouts and especially a DM41X close to DM42... it's up to them to decide...
They don't own 100% of the IP. A lot of it is owned by HP. :)

I am a HP41CX user using DM42 plateform, because the plateform is top notch.
I only use part of HP42s capabilities, restricted to HP41CX programming subset, and lack time/alarm, rom etc... from HP41CX.

I am sure that I am not the only one.

But I will accept any design from Swissmicros for the DM41X... I just would prefer to stay close to DM42.

And if you follow the WP43C thread... this question of staying close to DM42 is also ongoing! And I am sure that Swissmicros designed their DM41X layout before the apparition of the WP43C schism!

Imagine DM42, WP43C, DM41X and may more on the same platform, with just overlays to change ❤❤❤

Not.another.DM41L!
The 41C is the 41C. I waited 3/4 years before a proper portrait design. Don't piss it off with another abomination.

That's exactly what I don't care of: variations on vapourware.
Can't we wait to see the WP43 materialize before pimping it up?

A few times, when you get them, perhaps. Yes, to see how it all morphs into another calc.
But then? Do you think you will daily change from one to another? Or you will finally find your preferred platform and stick with it?

And why should the DM42 have to be seen as the touchstone platform? Just because we already own one?
Well I have 20+ 41s, so?

Let me have a proper 41, a proper 42 and a proper 43, please. I'll surely buy one of each, and probably more of my preferred model.

Peace and love 🌈

Good tuning starts even before the vehicle is already on the road. Very often the manufacturer works hand in hand with the tuner, sometimes the tuning department belongs to the manufacturer.

Ok then. Enjoy it.
I don't care: just give me my DM41X and I'll be happy as a clam.

Apparently not. ;) But let them try, they are helpful in testing ... and they might learn something (e.g. why x^2 shall be unshifted).
WP43 SN00000, 34S, and 31S for obvious reasons; HP-35, 45, ..., 35S, 15CE, DM16L S/N# 00093, DM42β SN:00041

Me too... I will buy as many new Swissmicros designs as they will build... but I still prefer a "similar platform" with same keys layout, different printed faceplate for me (or just overlays for someone not ready to spend a lot)...

Sorry, but that exactly my point here... if SwissMicros is designing the DM41X for people having 20+ HP41s... I think they are missing something...

just my 2 cents with peace✌ and ❤

What's your point in dreaming of a 41 in 42 body? Just keep on using the 42 as a super-41...

Are you still thinking that flocks of millennials are coming here to buy the DM41X, throwing away their TIs and CASIOs?
Listen to me: these are niche products. MLDL2000, SY41CL, DM42, DM41X are expensive toys for grown up people who like to tinker with what they dreamt as youngsters.

Life is good, I throw flowers at you! :D 🌷🌹🌼
