Case for Voyager 'L' size

Post by cdmackay »

Hope this isn't off-topic…

I'd been looking for a nice leather case/pouch for my (large) DM16L, as I don't care for the plastic pouch it comes with. It's quite dusty here, and I prefer it to be more dust-proof than the standard case provides.

Best I've found so far is these leather tobacco pouches.

They're a very nice fit for the calculator on its own; fits in snugly with no wasted room, almost like it was designed for it. You can just about get it in with the original black plastic case still on, too, but it's quite a tight fit.

They're a little thin, of course, but mine don't go outside much so the protection is quite adequate; and the pouch folds over so the display has two layers of leather over it.

I like the above, but anyone know of any alternatives? And for the CC-sized ones too?

I found the original HP 42S case is a nice fit for the DM42 with quick reference card, although it doesn't cover the top, of course.

===

I have no connection with the maker/seller/site, other than as a customer.

The original HP Pioneer Leather Cases work great (they include a flap over the top that tucks into a retaining strap) holding a DM42 and a QRG just about perfectly. They came in Black, Brown and Reddish-Brown (also called Red, Maroon, Oxblood, etc. in various places). They come up frequently on eBay, for anywhere from $40 to $100, depending on condition, etc. The best way to get one cheap is to buy one that comes bundled with a common and inexpensive calculator such as a 17B.

thanks Bob! I didn't even realise the Pioneer series had a case like that; I have a similar case for my 28S, but it's too big for the 42 or the Voyagers.

There must be two dozen Pioneers with cases on eBay at the moment, and all but one have the simple open-top slip case (of which I already have one), that I assume must have been a later replacement for the case you mention?

I'll keep an eye open… thanks.

I'd recommend looking for an HP-17bii+silver - it's accompanied by one of the best inexpensive cases I've experienced recently for this size of pocket calcs.
WP43 SN00000, 34S, and 31S for obvious reasons; HP-35, 45, ..., 35S, 15CE, DM16L S/N# 00093, DM42β SN:00041

Good suggestion Walter, I did not think of it; yes, this is a nice case too, and you can find these selling quite cheaply w/machine if you're patient. The original Pioneer cases are soft genuine leather and therefore not 'stiff', while the 17bii+Silver case is (nice) faux leather with a foldover top and snap, plus some kind of stiff liner (cardboard?), though if not well cared-for, pieces of the surface can chip-off, similar to the late 50g cases.

thanks both :)

anyone have any thoughts on alternative Voyager cases? Or are we thinking that they're a similar enough size? I find that my DM42 won't fit into the pouch I'm using for the DM16L, but perhaps the HP 42S is smaller than the DM42?

But my DM16L won't fit into the 42S slip case either, ironically :)

For my DM42, I use a hard case for the HP-35S. It holds the unit securely, and has enough room for a HP-42S quick reference, a copy of Avagardro's Numbers (a small reference book), and a few business cards.

Actually, it is the other way round. ;)

Is that something that's obtainable for the mere mortals on this forum? :)
