DM15L - missing LCD column

Post by paf »

After few months of use, I have a problem on my LCD screen of the DM15L : a row does not darken any more. The incriminated row is shown on the enclosed pictures. I informed Micheal by mail, but I do not have any answer so far. The issue is that I have lost the invoice... Does anyone have seen this failure ? Thanks.

I've seen it before but it's a COLUMN that's out, not a ROW. You could try to check the connection between the main board and the LCD display but I don't hold out much hope. Unless you have experience with delicate soldering (which may not even fix the problem) I'd just ask for a warranty replacement.

I received a message from Michael. He will send me a new LCD, and I will change it by myself. To be continued...

I just received the screen, but the thing is that the old one is firmly glued with a double face tape to the board. No chance that I removed it without damage. Moreover, I do not have any spare tape with the new screen...

I have the same issue but them with the lowest row on a DM15 CC model. So the annunciator for complex numbers reads as some kind of "r" now. It happened after my last battery replacement but I've no idea what could have caused it.

Well good luck... I received the lcd but it is really firmly glued to the board. Thus I decided to send the whole thing back for them to take care of it. I received the notification that it is received in Switzerland but I have nothing from SM.

That's really a problem with this lack of communication. Their products are really good, and sometimes maybe better than original HP ones, but their communication is really awful. Each times I have to send 3 or 4 times the email to have an answer... That's a pity.

This is the case as there is basically only one Michael taking care of all orders and customer support, in between designing new boards, scheduling production, shipping, ordering parts, etc. Please be patient and keep in mind this is all being done by a single person, and please don't have expectations of a large, bloated company with teams of customer support folks answering emails quickly, but typically not doing not much else quickly.

People do complain from time to time about not getting rapid replies, but few, if any, complain about the level of support and care they get when it eventually happens. Of the 2 styles, I prefer the way SM has chosen to do it, YMMV.

I do agree with you, I prefer this way too, but it is annoying anyway. An email just to confirm the calculator has arrived takes 30 sec.... And after 3 mails asking for news, still nothing...

I've mailed support@swissmicros.com about the issue, I'll see when they respond.
