New DM15 with keyboard problems

Post by Required »

I received my new DM15 the other day only to discover that the keyboard/membrane is not really glued or taped down properly.
Basically it’s just attached on the outer edges on the left, right and top areas. All other areas have no contact with the board underneath.
In the lower bottom you can almost peek in under the keyboard and applying pressure to get it to stick is not working.

I’ve sent support a mail with photos etc about it a couple of days ago but have not yet heard anything back.

Is this a known problem?
Any other of you that have experienced this?

I had issues with my DM11 membrane. After contacting Michael, a new sheet was sent out.
All Good now.

Reminder, Europe tends to treat August as a vacation month. Many businesses shut down completely, and send the employees an holiday.
I suppose tourism industry does not shut down, though.

I bought a DM15 in 2012, the top surface has always been a little bulging but not detached as you describe.

Unless you need something small, I would recommend the DM15L instead which is much more comfortable to use and looks more polished because it doesn't have those size constrains that make a membrane keyboard / cover unavoidable.

Thanks for the input and thoughts.
I’ll send them another mail and see if I can arrange with a return and chip in the difference for a 15L instead.

After my order got registered with PostNL two weeks ago, my shipment is finally on the way into Sweden.

Really looking forward to the new replacement keyboard top for the DM15 - but also for the DM15L which I ordered as well. :)

I understand the reasoning, you need both for scientific comparison after all, it's perfectly reasonable :D
Hope you get a correct DM15 top this time, it must have been a production glitch.

Haha

Well one will be the edc while the L will live in the desk.
I got an offer from Swissmicros I could not refuse.

Custom fees are now paid.
A couple of days more and they’re mine!

I received the package today with top cover for DM15 and the new DM15L.

Unfortunately it took a sad turn.

The replacement top cover/keyboard for the DM15 is not possible to attach properly. It’s not flat and slightly too large in height for the DM15 frame.
The adhesive is not strong enough so the whole keyboard looks like one big swollen bubble.

And the DM15L - I was looking forward for - was a disappointment as well :(
The top metal frame around the display on the 15L had lost its adhesiveness and is barely attached to the body.

I’ve reached out to Swissmicros but not yet heard back from them.

Sorry to hear that :(

I'm sure they'll quickly sort you out.

Mine is still firmly attached to the case even after several years, so it must be a production glitch - maybe someone was a little too sparing with glue or it's been too hot where they stocked them.

For the smaller DM15 on the other hand, it's strange. Have they changed the case and used a larger one at some point?

After a friendly dialog with Swissmicros I decided to return the DM15 as well as the 15L.
I felt that the misfortune haunts me and it was a bit too much having to repair and replace parts on brand new units directly out of the box.

I’ll keep my eyes on the DM32 instead - or perhaps 41x.
