DM15 - When can I order one?

Post by amafan »

I have two SwissMicros calculators now. A DM41X and a DM42. I was just wondering when the DM15 CC size calculator will be back in stock so I can order that one?

Do you want it for display or for computing? The latter is far easier with a DM15L, though still more difficult than with your DM42.

Walter, good question. I'm pretty sure SM doesn't care why I want to buy one, but your Question raises a logical point. Why do we buy any calculator in an age when stand alone devices are being displaced everyday by apps and emulators that run on High performance general purpose communications platforms that are arguably faster, more convenient and with us everywhere we go? For me, the answer goes back to the college days when the HP35 was every engineering student's dream. For most of us it was an unreachable dream, but the dream nonetheless. The calculator has a reverential place in my heart. Consequently, I have owned several over the years, mostly HP's but other brands as well.

I was delighted when my DM41x arrived. It was beautiful, solid, just worked, and brought joy. I immediately, purchased a DM42, because my treasured HP42s was showing sighs of wear. It too provided that same joy of ownership I received from the DM41. I want that feeling again is the bottom line. The DM15 is different enough to make it an attractive product, and small enough that I can carry it in the small sling bag I use to carry my essentials when I (rarely these days) leave the house.

Also, I'm old and just like calculators. Probably this isn't the answer the compute purists were looking for, but I hope SM is listening.

Be well, and Calculate ON!

I think that what Walter meant was : why buy a dm15 when you have a dm42. And in case you want a dm15, you’d better buy a dm15L than a dm15 because the dm15L has a much better keyboard. And you can still put it in your pocket.

Getting it simply because you want it and know you'll love it when you get it is the best possible reason. That amount of satisfaction for such a relatively small cost means life can still be very good. Very few people getting new calculators are doing so because they need them, let's all admit that, at least to ourselves... but these great machines from SwissMicros really scratch that itch quite well. :)

Again, the bottom line for me.'

I have a small bag to carry it in that's already stuffed with other things. I know the DM15L is better in many ways, but I have other Voyager calculators and they don't fit. So...

@amafan: Thanks for answering. Now it's perfectly clear to me you buy the DM15CC for joy. Else I felt the necessity to warn you - aging eyes and fingers, you might know... Anyway, enjoy!

Roger. Wilco. Now I just hope SM answers the question in my OP.

I've asked what the hold-up is. Stay tuned...
