To tell you the truth, I was really very very close to hit the "buy button" for a HP41CL + time module + serial cable at 700 Euros...
Are you sure ?

Code: Select all

$235 USD : 41CL circuit board
$65 USD : Time Module board
$25 USD : Serial port connector
$7 USD : 3-D printed Port cover for serial
  $6 USD : Serial Cable
$50 USD : Priority Mail International Shipping (tracking & ins)
=========:
$388 USD : Total
$355 EUR : Total (exchange rate : 1 USD = 0,914280 EUR)
... of course you still need to have a fullnut HP-41C, CV or CX donor on top of the above.
Add to that import charges due to the full value, insured, declared.

Well in my case and I have six 41CL, my normal cost is more around $500 USD including everything, USA to Canada.
That said, I fully agree that it is not cheap and that you will get two or near three DM41X for the same amount.

Hey guys,

Who can tell me when the DM41X will/could/should be Available ?

No perhaps, just WHEN !

It’s not a matter of price

From what Robert said, before july 2020, for the 41st anniversary.
Better ask Michael though, when he will officially announce it...

Thanks for you answer Aka !

Yes 41st anniversary... I was a future IT guy at that time, oops I mean 1979/1980.

I just can’t wait.

We both were, then!
These days, 40 years ago, I was eagerly awaiting for mine, after having booked it: coming back home from Uni I asked daily the shop lady if they finally delivered it.
Had to wait until a week before Christmas... :|

I saw the HHC 2019 video on the DM41X. Great stuff.

I have one request: I would need some sort of live programmable connection to the machine. A way to do bidirectional communication via the USB connection would be just fine - as long as I can access that connection on both the PC and the 41X. The use cases are along the lines of controlling my telescope with the 41X and controlling other equipment.

Is this on the horizon?

Hi Geir

I seem to remember that someone offered Thomas to release his source regarding HP-IL in Free42/DM42 for integration. This discussion then ran in the sand, so there is no extension of the command set for HP-IL in DM42. The whole discussion only makes sense, of course, if you have a concept how to get the HP-IL commands over the USB-C interface.

I have to admit that I didn't watch the video completely, I scrolled more through some of the slides. Since the DM41X will be a 41CL, it will handle the HP-IL commands, so...

As simple as a serial emulation!
It all began some time ago when Jean-François Garnier created an HP-IL to PC solution.
You can refer to this previous post to read more. 8-)

BTW, the DM42 offers a micro-USB interface, not an USB-C. ;)
