15 - HYP - Hyperbolic functions

Post by Peet »

After I bought the HP41CV after a long time of saving my pockt money, I was a little disappointed it did not have all the functions my PR100 had. The hyperbolic functions were part of it. Because I couldn't afford the math module at the time, I wrote this small program.

Usage (User-Mode on):
<A>: SINH - <B>: COSH - <C>: TANH
<a>: ASINH - <b>: ACOSH - <c>: ATANH

Code: Select all

LBL "HYP"
SF 27
"SINH:COSH:TANH"

Actually, hyperbolic functions are included as part of the Math Pac module that is included with the DM41X. Also, I prefer to assign them to the SIN, COS, TAN keys in User (USR) mode.

Global ASN were effective even if you started another program, so you could not use local assignment of H,I,J if you put functions with ASN to SIN, COS, TAN. The HP41C/CV did not have the CLKEYS/PASN functions. So I avoided global assignments for local programs if an other way was possible. I used ASN only for my permanent Assingments (e.g. %CH on % key or TONE on BEEP) and via Card Reader as global settings/special configurations.
I was a Teenager when I bought my HP41CV. At first there was no money left for the Math Pac.

I think most of us had that problem, i was 19 or 20 years old and finishing my study in elektronics and priority was the cardreader.
One of the first things I did was constructing a complex keyboard and hyperbolic functions.
A more fortunate friend of me had the math pac and I tried to copy the matrix program, it ran but there was not enough memory left to do a useful calculation. Of course I was mostly interested in solving complex matrices so I also made (or copied, dont know anymore) something smaller for this.

The Reader was my second purchase for the 41, the first was the Users' Library Solutions GAMES

I'm amazed that you could even afford an HP41CV at that time ! I was 26 when I bought my HP35, and it cost nearly half a month's net take home salary.

When I started saving money for a calculator, the HP41 didn't even exist. Originally I wanted the TI59, then the HP41C came along and was my new dream calculator. When I finally got the money, there the 41CV came on the market.

Working in the holidays working in the weekends saving every cent for two years. Mainly at a flower bulb farm, how stereotype Dutch is that :D
I guess I didn't have a life in those days.
