Many user do not have a printer and those who use a printer could put PRN on the desired key (e.g. shift DSP).
shift DSP (PRN) is my most wrongly pressed key because "shift RTN" is often used and out of habit expected next to the DEL key.

Re: shift DSP (PRN) as a CST key
Well, unfortunately that is not a 'regular' key so could not be assigned, which is why this is a dedicated key. Pressing this is analogous to pressing the PRINT button on the 82143 printer, thus printing whatever is in the display, hence it's special nature.
Have you filled all the CST keys?

Re: shift DSP (PRN) as a CST key
My suggestion wasn't to assign this key. I like to use him like the alpha or arrow-keys.
If I type in a program or want to reset a running program after R/S, I (mis)type intuitive "shift-left-from-del" to "RTN" (this was the position of RTN for 41 years on the HP41) - for me is this the most annoying thing with the DM41X.
Alternativ suggestion: if no printer-rom is loaded, the PRN-Key could execute RTN instead of nothing.

How many times have you turned your DM41X off while trying to enter / exit ALPHA Mode?

Re: shift DSP (PRN) as a CST key
It happened to me too, but the consequences were less serious. You switch the calc on again and all is OK.
If you want to restart a program with RTN and R/S but instead continue with NOP (PRN) and R/S, you may start an unwanted calculation.
Moreover, the RTN / PRN assignment can be done without changing the hardware, but not the position of hardware buttons.

Re: shift DSP (PRN) as a CST key
The PRN function is special and cannot be changed or moved, nor can the key be reassigned, sorry.
But the good news is as you use the 41X more, your muscle memory will adapt and it will soon be comfortable. Believe me I know, I've been through it. In fact, now when I use a 41CX, I find I'm looking for keys that aren't there.

Re: shift DSP (PRN) as a CST key
The PRN-Key has already has different states. If the Printer ROM ist loaded it works as PRN respectively PRX/PRA. If the ROM ist not loaded, the Button has no function (maybe it could).

Re: shift DSP (PRN) as a CST key
What can be done is to swap the keys CST and EEX, this can be achieved using the appropriate KEYMAP.BIN
It may also be possible to have the CST key behave like the EEX key, ie have both keys CST and EEX have the same function but in this case, you’ll loose the CST functionality.

You should try to use a DM41(L)...
