Speed change (USB vs battery) on running program

Post by EM41 »

Doing some speed tests I decided to remove USB power when running the test and I discovered that the clock speed doesn't change.
If you do this and don't reconnect USB power the battery will drain very fast.
Under normal circumstances you don't do this but I think a warning in the manual not to remove USB when a program is running would be a good idea. I assume the same applies for the DM42.

Hmmmm......

Bad News: You have a pathological mindset when it comes to testing. :o

Good News: You report your findings here clearly. :D

Thanks for this report, we'll look into it. I assume it can be detected and corrected, the design was just a bit less pathological than the testing.

Good find, thanks again!

No! I did the test with a drawing program and obviously the speed changes when switching the power on or off during the treatment.
So no problem with DM42. Phew!

Interesting, so the switchover mechanism for the clock is different, I expected it to be the same because its not part of the HP41 and HP42 emulator (or maybe it is after all).

The switching mechanism is the same. It's just that some parts of DMCP are inactive while the DM41X is inside the emulation loop (as is the case when executing a program). The situation is completely different for the DM42 because there is no emulation loop. There is no emulation even. Free42 is a simulator, not an emulator.

However the USB icon turns into the battery when you unplug the cable...
