Re: Source for additional MOD files
No. The DM42 is, as it was built on Free42 which is open source (GPLv2 I believe).

Re: Source for additional MOD files
Much as there's little chance of a rival spin-off version of the 41 platform on DM4... hardware (as is the case with WP43s vs WP43c each using customised versions of Free42), the platform itself is a celebration of community created content. You only have to look at how much brilliant content has been created by to likes of Ángel Martin and Jean-Marc Baillard over the last 15 years or so (amongst many others). The platform itself is 'open source' in spirit even if the emulation platform itself isn't open source.
Re: Source for additional MOD files
For sake of truth: AFAIK, no WP 43x is "using customised versions of Free42". WP 43S is based on the code developed for the WP 34S years ago, and WP43C is a modification of WP 43S. Just to prevent fake news.
WP43 SN00000, 34S, and 31S for obvious reasons; HP-35, 45, ..., 35S, 15CE, DM16L S/N# 00093, DM42β SN:00041

I really don't understand why everything made in the XXI century is expected to be open-sourced...

Re: Source for additional MOD files
Just a thing to consider: if we would like to have another 15 more years of RPN-pleasure, brilliant content and Goodies, please open source it.jonmoore wrote: ↑Tue Apr 28, 2020 9:01 am

Why isn't it open sourced? Do Martin, Jean-Marc and all those others whose work is now downloadable from h41.org object?

Re: Source for additional MOD files
In the XXI century the opportunities to work together have exploded (think GitHub,GitLab). A whole lot of people come with fresh ideas and new energy to the subject if you open-source it.

Re: Source for additional MOD files
That's a decision for the content creators themselves. But one of the beauties of the 41 platform is that much of the algorithms/functions you get access to in the various Rom's/Mods can be copied across to local memory, where you can customise to your hearts content. And then all your custom algo's/func's can then be saved to e.g a custom Hepax RAM; meaning that you can access those custom commands in much the same manner as any other Rom/Mod command.
As I said before, 'open source' is built into the 41 platform.
It has to be remembered that there are various custom varieties of the 41 in it's universe (both software emulator across all manner of OS platform and custom hardware such as the 41CL). The reasons these variants can all coexist without major issues is that they all hold to the core design principles of 41cx. You'll find certain Rom/Mod's that are bespoke or optimised to a certain platform (especially the case with 41CL) but in the main the vast majority of Rom/Mod's function in an identical manner no matter to emulation platform.
In the case of the HP-41cx there's a lot to be said for consistency in the base platform.
Re: Source for additional MOD files
My bad, Walter. Thanks for putting me straight.
I read this in a recent forum post and hadn't returned to the post to see that that OP was corrected further down the thread.
