Was thinking the other day, what's missing (if anything).
I am assuming users understand what is in the library of DM41X roms (such as Sandmath, etc.)
1) Alternate font (yes, I know, dead horse).
2) Double or extended precision.
The answer to this one could be, "Use the DM42" of course. But either a rom of mcode routines that can perform arithmetic, algebraic functions (think X^2, etc.) and logs/trigs to 20 or 30 places could be useful. I am aware of MLTI - Peter's extended precision rom, but I'm thinking of some way to do 20/30 digit and then use it in a chain calculation.
3) HP-IL (of course)
4) ?
I really could not come up with a lot that is not built-in, SM provided or plug in rom provided.
That speaks of the great accomplishment of the SM team as well as rom developers over the years.
What would you add that is missing ?
So, what's missing from DM41X and plug in roms ?
Re: So, what's missing from DM41X and plug in roms ?
There is precision as you mentioned but that's it basically, yes connectivity and HPIL but its not really where I use a calculator for nowadays.
For extra precision I grab the DM42 incidentally but have to get used to the keyboard all the time, its not as horrible as the HP48 but I simply cannot get used to it.
So a DM42 emulator inside the DM41 would be great, all the DM 42 functions and high precision but with a proper keyboard layout.
I know that wont happen but its something i really would like instead of having two separate calcs.

I haven't studied the code at all, but perhaps could be possible to recompile the Free42 as used in the DM42 with the key map changed to match the DM41x?

Something like the pil-box would be great.
DM15L - DM42 - DM41x

My PIL-box is ready to connect.

Hi,
I haven’t made the jump to the DM41X yet. Mainly because I use my 41’s a lot to control electronic devices (PIL-IO) and DMM’s.
To me, the main advantages of the HP41 series, is connectivity. So that’s definitely a dealbreaker for me.
And although it looks to be a truly amazing machine (thumbs up SM), I’m not ready to invest at this point.
I hope I will someday, though.
Just my 2cts.
