RAW File Format

Post by Richard Garner » Thu Oct 08, 2020 3:21 am

Hello Everyone.

Received my DM41X today S/N 00190 & 00198. Both are great looking and working as expected. Found something I thought might need mentioning. I have written a few programs over the years for the 41CX and after finding V41, I entered the programs into V41 saving them as RAW file format to eventually copy them into something loke the DM41X. After coping the files into the DM41X, I began loading the programs into memory to run. I found some files would load and some would not. Those that would not, I had to press the reset buttpn to regain control of the DM41X. These RAW files were made with various versions of V41, from 7 through 9D. The files would load and run under V41 with no problems. So I Loaded each program into the latest version of V41 (9D) then save them out under that version, the new saved RAW files load and work with no problem in the DM41X. I hope this helps others in making sure there RAW file programs load and run.

Thanks very much for checking and verifying that .raw file versions saved by the latest revision of V41 work as expected. This is the version most (all?) testing was done with, as I presume any user of V41 would be using the latest version.

Release 9 got some changes in RAW file management.
--------------------------------------
GET/PUT USER CODE PROGRAMS
--------------------------------------
From the File menu, select Get or Put to load or save one or more user code
programs in .RAW format. Until Release 8E Put User Code save only the code from
the selected global label until the corresponding global END. On Release 9 this
behavior has been changed. First, the listbox with the catalog shows only the
first global label of each user code now, this prevents saving user code parts
twice. Second, the saved user code does not begin with the global label any
more, it begins with the byte followed by the END of the previous user code.
This allow saving user code constructions like code beginning with a numeric
label and the main text label entry, which was chosen for selection, is
somewhere inside the code. By selecting more than one label in the listbox,
you can put all selected user code into one RAW file.

Did I mention I love people setting line breaks manually? Looks like a piece of poetry here!

Walter, that's an excerpt from a .txt file.
