The 41X is a nice and solid toy for sure but definitly not for me.
So you are mainly interested in the font used, that's funny.
Usability encompasses readability IMHO. YMMV
And readability is perfectly fine, if you only had been a long time user...
And yes Walter: as usual my mileage varies.

There is no interest or plan for the 41X to add either 'normal' fonts or customized stack displays; If you like these features, the DM42 offers more than any other calculator known. The 41X is a faithful emulation of the original 41CX, albeit with some enhancements, but always in the spirit and style of the original 41. The 14-segment font is a core, defining feature of the 41 series; the same is true for the 41X.
Hello

I don’t think that adding possibilities for new fonts or display options will destroy the spirit and the style of the original hp 41 within DM41x.

For example, If you have a S-type Jaguar and a Mk II, but the spirit of these two cars is the same for me, even if the latest model have GPS, cooling air and vocal assistant.

The spirit of DM41x is related to the fact that functions and programmation are those of HP41, and thanks to Michael and David for that, but if possible, it is ok to implement facilities in order to better use the calculator, and especially if it is only software options that can be choosen in setting menu, so you may work in the native configuration (like an old HP 41CX) or implement other options, and I think that some people could make a purchase decision on this basis.

i noticed your R54 for Library#4 and thought: odd, why is mine only R51, yet I loaded the modules zip on Sunday?

Looks like a new module zip (200316) appeared since then.

Would it be possible to announce when that happens, please, so we don't need to keep checking?

A wee note of what changed would be nice too, of course; although in this case it seems to be only Lib#4, and so presumably mostly support stuff.

As ever, thanks to Ángel for his hard work updating all his modules :)
How many pages of HEPAX RAM gets allocated, then?

Hi,

I am new to the forum but a die hard HP41 user since 1984 and I am really interested in this calculator.
Question, are beta units still for sale and is the hardware stable ?
I am happy to wait for firmware developments and even make contributions in the form of looking for bugs but if the hardware is not stable yet I prefer to wait for the production unit.

greetings from the Netherlands

Yes, the Beta units are still available for sale. Here is the link to purchase from the first post in this topic:

Yes the calculator is VERY stable. The hard core folks seem to be finding a few issues, but not very many. For the more casual HP41 user, I'd say the calculator is fantastic. Jump in, the community and the support are excellent here!

Great, this will be my throw in my bag daily use calculator.
Don't want to use my collectables for this any more (and I hate the 48 my employer gave me once).
I read something bout keyboard paint coming off, was that an incident or is that already solved.

The yellow paint on the [shift] key wears off on some units; it depends on many factors but is common. This issue is common for all BETA units. Look in the prior messages, various users have tried different techniques to mitigate this, however in my own case, I've used a 41 long enough that my fingers recall where the shift key is :ugeek:

Yes you're right Bob !!!
I solved the yellow button problem in 10 seconds. I used my wife's yellow nail polish. It works very, very well and it's quite pretty. I think I'll do the same with the blue button even though it hasn't faded.
The machine is very reliable. The only drawback at the moment is the keyboard cones. You have to get into the habit of pressing hard enough to ensure the response. But with my 73 years old I remember my mechanical Olivetti where you had to press much harder to write through the ink ribbon. But I lost that habit. So, if it were possible to choose other cones it would make the DM41X even more awesome.
And thank you for the excellent module management.

Stay healthy
Pierre

I learned to type on a siemens T100B when I was in the army so a little keypress is no problem haha.
Also read the tread about the keys, doesn't seem to be too problematic.
Have to think a little bit, maybe I wait maybe not. Want one, that's clear.
