I got mine today! \o/ (SN: 00033)
First impressions: It looks really good, especially the faceplate is great. The colors of the Shift/Alpha keys are a bit off, compared to the faceplate, but it's not so bad that I would mind. The "SwissMicros DM41X" print above the display is visibly larger than it is on my DM42, and I think the smaller size looks better, tbh. The 14-segment font looks really great - much better than I had expected!
I haven't played around with it much yet, but it looks very promising!
A big thank you to everyone involved in making this beauty!

So far, the ROMs that I tried (Advantage, and Isene/GEIR) work flawlessly.

But something I am missing ... where is the sticker for the shifted ALPHA keys? That should be on the backside of the calculator!

Okay, first documentation issue ... how do I exit "diagnostics" mode? The DM42 key combinations do not seem to work.

Edit: it times out automatically ... should be documented.

Has the manual been released yet? I would like to review it while I am waiting for mine to arrive.

i made some "benchmarks" - with this small programm:
(it counts from 1000 to 0)

Code: Select all

01 LBL "BENCH"
02 1000
03 STO 00
04 0
05 SETSW
06 RUNSW
07*LBL 00
08 DSE 00
09 GTO 00
10 STOPSW
11 RCLSW
12 END
Results:
DM41X fast mode: 00:09
DM41X fast mode with USB : 00:02
DM41X slow mode: 01:59

41CL TURBO50 : 00:05
41CL normal mode : 01:38

So, the speed is almost like a 41CL - for me, this is perfect.

Here's a silly question: Where does one go to get electronic copies of the ROMs to try out?

Not silly at all. For the Advantage ROM, a good source is hp41.org.

For the Isene ROMs, his GitHub repository has all documentation and code (plus the ROMs he used materials from originally).

Thanks very much for this reply!
It turns out that my question actually *was* silly, because I have the HP-41 DVD of Warren's site, from way back in 2011. Of course, on it is a folder of many HP-41 ROMs that I have never been able to use. Now that you pointed me in the right direction, I have *plenty* of ROM images to try, once my DM-41X arrives!

Thanks again!
