Suitable app for iOS Win etc., for DM41 similar to Free42

Post by Wyatt_Irk »

Is anyone aware of an HP41CX emullator for iOS, Win, etc., that is analogous to Free42? Is there an appropriate app that is based upon the DM41 (like Free42)?

There are a few good emulators (sometimes based on Nonpareil) of the HP-41C(V/X) which like the DM41X runs the original HP41-ROM like go41c(x/xt) on android, i41CX on iOS, v41 for Windows etc.

Thank you. I have i41CX+, but thought there might be others I'm not aware of. I hope that i41CX+ can be used to write and trouble-shoot programs similarly to Free42.

go41cx (android) and v41 (windows) uses compatible .RAW and .MOD files to use them with the DM41X. With the i41CX+ (not i41CX) it should be also possible.

i41cx+ is a hell of an HP-41 emulator. I really like to tinker with it because it's all there on your iPad or iPhone: You can drop in modules, use overlays, save calculator states and even create perfect printouts.

When entering large programs you might observe a bug that seems to be related to the curtain between data registers and program memory, but otherwise it is adorable.

What I do sorely miss: A good and stable HP-41 emulator for MacOS. All the existing ones don't run on a recent machine, are buggy as hell or don't offer port emulation.

A native HP-41 and a 71-emulator under MAcOS that actually work with PYILper would be very welcome indeed.

Jean-Francois Garnier's EMU41/DOS and EMU71/DOS both run under DOSBox, which works on macOS.

Similarly, Christoph Gissielink's Emu71/Win runs under Parrallels Desktop

These all take a bit of effort to setup, but are well worth it if you really want these emulators working there.

I managed to install emu71 and v41 under Crossover and run them with pyILPer under Anaconda.

emu71 crashes rarely and does a good job. V41 still behaves buggy as hell... I still didn't give up however but there is nothing like a robust native app. Still hoping.

One question regarding setup: Can modules be scripted into the .kml file, like the ROM? I'd like the HP-IL Module to be automatically loaded on launching the app. Did not find any reference to that...

Thanks for any hint, especially regarding syntax...
