Thanks for your friendly words.

Please look on the top of p. 86 of 211. It should explain the matter.

I find it on pp. 137 and 219 of my 339 pages copy.

Walter, the manual kept growing during its lifetime?

Edition 3.1 was still A4, I turned to A5 later.

[EDIT: See here for the updated version of this list]

I've tried to keep in my notes (a WP34s FAQ tentative) an history of the different manual versions, but I may have missed some and/or have wrongly captured the different versions details:

Q: Where can I find a user’s manual for the WP 34s / WP 31s?
The User’s Manual for the WP 34s / 31s is the work of Walter Bonin. This is the main reference for each of these two calculators and includes a huge amount of information covering all aspects of the products (software and hardware). This is the first stop if you have any question related to the WP 34s/31s.

WP 34s:
A pdf manual is available on Sourceforge for firmware v2.2 and v3.1 (here).
Starting with v3.2 the manual moved to a printed version and is not available freely in electronic format. An electronic version of the 3.3 version - 339 pages - April 11, 2015 - was available a few years back from Walter. See here for order details.

There have been different formats for the different versions, driven by the book shops where the manual were printed*:
  • v3.2 is available as a print-on-demand large footprint
  • v3.3 was initially offered as a spiral bound A5 format. There were two batches with some slight changes in-between.
  • v3.3 is now offered as a print-on-demand book at the same supplier as v3.2 but with a reduced footprint.
For the WP 34S, the printed editions had/have:
  • 244 pages (v3.2 large footprint – 8.55”x11”)
  • 370 pages (v3.3 spiral bound batch 1 – A5) - Jun 6 2014
  • 374 pages (v3.3 spiral bound batch 2 – A5) - Sept 9 2014
  • 344 pages (v3.3 perfect bound – 6” x 9”) – Feb 11 2015 - Edition: 3rd revised edition
  • 404 pages (v3.3 perfect bound – 6” x 9”) – Jun 11 2016 - Edition: 4
WP 31s:
A preliminary manual for the WP 31s v1.2 is available in pdf format on Sourceforge here.
The final WP 31s v1.2 manual is available as a printed book. There was an initial batch printed as a spiral bound A5 format, it’s now offered as a print-on-demand book at the same supplier as WP 34s v3.3*. It had/has:
  • 143 pages (v1.2 spiral bound – A5 )
  • 150 pages (v1.2 perfect bound – 6” x 9”)
*Note: The links to createspace to order printed versions of the manuals are not active anymore and have been removed from my notes.

Boy, Didier, you were busy!

Just three remarks:
  1. It always pays to go to the project website root https://sourceforge.net/projects/wp34s/. The links there work and the information is up to date usually.
  2. Currently (?) the printed WP31S Manual is not available from that relentless company (anymore?). If this should settle, we'll find a pdf solution.
  3. The latest print edition of the WP34S Manual contains 410 pages.

@Didier - Indeed, a very thorough and helpful post, thanks very much.

May I suggest you add a new, separate post with that same information, which will make it far more visible and easier to find, as compared to now, where it's on page-10 of a much narrower topic where most 34S users are not likely to look.

Is there an official source for the printed manuals listed above?

If you ask for an official source of information, here it is.

Less than you ;) I was just collecting data as the different versions were published and I simply published my notes as they were written at that time.

  1. My content was created several years ago, which explains why I don't have the latest and greatest link to the project.
  2. From what I can see following the link on sourceforce, the WP31S printed manual is available
  3. Interesting; it seems that this is a newer version than the one published in 2016, with a few additional pages. On the product page where you can place your order it says:
    Product details

Publisher : CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform; 4th edition (June 11, 2016)
    Language : English
    Paperback : 410 pages
However on the first preview pages it says "Copyright © 2014 - 2018 by Walter Bonin", so this was published in 2018, not in 2016. Also in the footer it is written "WP 34S v3.3d", what is the meaning of the 'd' in v3.3d? (on my pdf version from 2015, there is just v3.3)

Where would you suggest to add this separate post?
