If anything, I’d like to see a portrait DM41P.
Amen! I'd race you to the website to order one!

Could not resist the opportunity to move the 42s primary operator keys to where god intended--the left.
Amen bro'! :D

Very few things stand a chance to have Massimo like a landscape design, but... dare I say it... this could do it.
;)

It seems I made my point then...

Have you ever wondered why HP returned to portrait oriented calculators after introducing the landscape Voyager series ? Could it perhaps be related to the ease of using it as a handheld calculator ? Anyways, I’m so very happy that SM decided to do the initial version of the DM42 as a proper portrait layout, and enlarge the screen. If anything, I’d like to see a portrait DM41P.
Yes, you nailed it, that's the whole point. :!:

Here is a visualization of the affiliation of a label and the corresponding button with different colored bars. Of course, this maybe will not be accepted by the majority of potential customers.

Personally, I would only be interested in a credit card calculator anyway. I like the DM42 as it is, I don't necessarily need a landscape version with a smaller display.

Certainly accepted by me! Just not sure what to do about the display and those annunciators.

I like it Mark, nice out-of-the-box thinking! Clearly this uses the same LCD as the current production 17BII+, which is great. Until the DM42, that's about the best LCD I've seen.

Very few things stand a chance to have Massimo like a landscape design, but... dare I say it... this could do it.

The 2 x blank keys beg some questions/comments....

1. Is your idea to keep them blank - e.g. for user-assignment of his/her particular favorite non-assigned function (done via some setup menu)?

2. The key directly above [RDN] just begs to be a corresponding [RUP]. Shift-[RUP] can be [SETUP] to access the configuration options, analogous to the DM42 SETUP.

3. Well, guess I'll stop making it up as I go...

Yes... I want one.
The original skin design I borrowed from did have RUP above the RDN key. The other extra key was also assigned. I intentional left both blank to show that there is room for the "Setup" menu. Personally, I'd like Complex (CPX) on one key and Custom (CST) on the other.

Reminder: All this is nice but moot unless somebody publishes a viable idea taking care of the annunciators.

Are there any other screens the same size but higher resolution that can be swapped? Me being naïve again?

Maybe annunciators aren't visible by default, and the extra button can shift between annunciator mode and normal mode. Annunciator mode shows just X register an annunciators. Normal mode shows no annunciators.

Annuciators: Maybe three of them are sufficient. At the top left longer bar for 'multirow menus', at the bottom left longer bar for 'shift', at the middle left a short bar indicating that one of the 'other annuciators' is on or active (flashing). "x:" and "y:" can be made a little narrower. The left bars can also hang something in the first label, just invert the color. By (shift) AVIEW I mean of course annuciators view (like show) and not alpha view...

Then there is a problem with the new annuciator for the alpha mode,"[a]","[A]" or "[ ]". Maybe there are ideas from others for the (new) alpha mode.
