I believe in free will. Just can't help it.
Re: C43 continuous improvement --> C47 Classic single shift, replaces C43 on DM42
I also wondered about the yellow and blue lines under the [COS] and [TAN] keys.
They were not on the C43 bezel. What do they symbolize?

Re: C43 continuous improvement --> C47 Classic single shift, replaces C43 on DM42
This layout C47 is a retrofit layout compatible to the white and yellow keys of the HP42S. Project definition. It is what it is. It is frozen.
If you don't like it, but you like the project, simply:
1. go to g[KEYS] and choose D47, E47 or N47 or even V47 (and refer to Dani's explanation in post 1 of this thread for the differences). These designs are fluid still (as we really focused on the C47) and they FAR from being frozen. Talk to Dani here - we all are passionate about it, but we don't make changes without wanting his take on it.
2. Make yourself some makeshift stickers and a paper template for D, E, N or V47 and you will have phase n+1 of this project in hand with a layout not designed to the 42S legacy.
3. Feed back your requirements for any of D, E, N or V47, all mentioned models are NOT frozen, only the C47 IS frozen.
4. If you still have no satisfaction, think it through, make up your own layout and try it out using ASN. If it really works, talk here and if it seems valid, we may agree to add in KEYS as another option.
[Σ+NRM]:
Since you are the first person to EVER acknowledge the use of [Σ+NRM], you get to choose what to add to that menu. Your wish may be granted, or not. That is an easy change - it is an option menu for an identified "spare" key. Easy fix in a softmenu only. It requires no template - only imagination.

Yes, KEYS, [Σ+NRM] menu:
Once you press F3, Σ+ becomes g. Now press g[F4] to copy the NRM key to the USER profile as well - now you have a key not even changing when USER is selected.

Yes, revision number for the public paper card. Re: C43 continuous improvement --> C47 Classic single shift, replaces C43 on DM42
They are useful if you go to KEYS and select the either of the two C43 ALT layouts - they have two shift keys and sacrifice SIN, COS and TAN for that. These conform to the C43 cards that I dished out at Allschwil.
Currently C47 does not yet have an ALT layout. But the lines are there to use blue and yellow shifts there if you want to assign them there.

There is a second part to the answer which also explains why we have not made an ALT layout for C47 as yet:
Those coloured lines are very close to the key hole cut line. We identified that as a risk for the line intersecting with the key hole. We listed it as a matter to check on the samples that we ordered from China. If any sample has signs of lines infringing with the holes, then they will be removed from the template, prior to giving go-ahead for the batch, which then would not need ALT layouts made in the KEYS menu.

Re: C43 continuous improvement --> C47 Classic single shift, replaces C43 on DM42
Thanks for the explanation Jaco. I had missed that, probably because I would never "sacrifice" the [COS] and [TAN] keys. I can easily live with the double shift, which I actually find quite smart
