Languages too (esperanto?!).
There are easier conlangs than Esperanto, like Interlingua:

Or Globasa, currently in development.

I certainly did not expect a reply from Norway!

Here is Optimot on an ISO (Mac) keyboard.
Direct access and Shift on top, the AltGr (⌥) layer in the middle, and the Shift-AltGr layer at the bottom.
In green are dead keys that provide access to other layers: diacritics and tables of symbols.
Image

æ is accessible by AltGr-a, å by AltGr-q a, and ø by AltGr-k o, or AltGr-ro

You cannot use Optimot for Norwegian without modifications.
You’ll have to replace À, É, È by Å, Æ, Ø, and do many other changes like switching (C and K), and (O and U).

A complete list of the characters is available here:
https://www.xn--bpote-6rae.fr/optimot
Click on a character to see how to obtain it with the driver.

You may try Optimot without installing a driver here:
https://www.xn--bpote-6rae.fr/
Choose Optimot in the top right corner and start a lesson.
Then choose « Émulation Optimot » in the menu on the right side (last option).
(Dead keys won’t work.)

Is there another layout than Qwerty for Norwegian?

No. We're not a huge population so there isn't much of a market, I guess.

We use a slightly modified version of to get room for the extra letters of our alphabet (ÆØÅ), but this moves a couple of characters that's really handy when writing code to awkward places.

I wish the ZSA Moonlander was a bit cheaper... ;)

Norway, beautiful country, I’m sure.

You may design your own layout and promote it.
In order to test it, use KLAnext

You’ll need your own corpus of texts for this purpose.
Place all vowels on the left, and all consonnants on the right. You’ll have a better hand alternation.
Then swap the letters in order to reduce the distance and the same finger digrams.

For your keyboard, you may consider this one: MoErgo Glove80
It’s better than a Moonlander or a Kinesis.

Or for a cheaper options, there are many sites and Discord that discuss that. But I’m not an expert.

As is France! I use to watch Le Tour de France on TV, and wow what stunning landscapes!

Thanks for the tips, I will check them out. I find keyboard layout design super interesting (as you might guess from my involvement with the C47...)

Have a nice weekend! :)

Indeed, this is an interesting topic for optimization freaks like me.
I spent more than a year designing Optimot.

I also plan to create a more international layout. Because the existing ones are created by Anglo-Saxons for English in priority. But the phonology of English is... very particular (to stay correct). And theses layouts suck for other languages. For example, Colemak is bad for French, and for other Romance languages, I guess. My layout would be based on phonological principles common to most languages. And there would be 3 or 4 free keys customizable for each language.

At some point, further optimization is no longer possible and we need to optimize the language itself for further gains. This led me to take a look at conlangs.

Have a nice weekend too. 🙂

Interesting layout! That's quite a commitment to come up with and use that!

I currently use a largely UK-style ISO, though with the single height enter key. On my 60% keyboard I have a couple extra layers for the arrow cluster, home/end, page up/down, numeric keypad etc.. on my UHK keyboard.

In retrospect I think I might have gotten away with a switch to ortho, but it's a bit of a journey, and even moving to a split was awkward at first.

Are you still using Qwerty?
You may find better alternatives here: https://keyboard-design.com/best-layouts.html

Very often people prefer not to change the location of ZXCV because they are used to the shortcuts.
Optimot uses duplicates for shortcuts (in green) so that they can be used right or left handed for the most common functions.
