C43 (on DM42) - first impressions

Post by rudi »

I've now been using my DM42 as a C43 for half a day at work.
Only been doing some basic arithmetic, + - * / y^x x^2 Sqrt etc...

First thing I noticed, and found a bit annoying, is that the C43 is noticable slower than my DM42.
When keying in fast, the C43 is lacking, but there seems to be a keyboard buffer, and as far as I can see, the C43 hasn't lost any keystrokes yet.
My DM42 is s/n 06999, don't know if there's been any CPU updates since this one?

Otherwise the C43 is very nice as a office calculator.

I need to read both the manual and refrence guide, there's many basic things I have no idea how to do, for example the multi line soft menus, system setup to alter the battery indcicator, time format etc.

Where do we report bugs in the C43?
Will not spam the WP43 bug thread.

I’ve found one:
UNIT
DATE
D->J
1
+
J->D
results in “Invalid input data type for this operation”

As an enthusiastic amateur astronomer, I am very happy, that Julian Day is implemented, but I would expect to do arithmetic operations on a JD and then convert back to a date.

Same error if I enter a JD manually and execute J->D

We can (use) this thread that you just started for first impressions, and this one that I just started here for bug reports and bug discussions.

The slower speed will still be optimised - it is due to the increased overhead of drawing the menus a lot more often than in other calc's to update options in the soft keys, and to show the f/g indicator lines. You are right the key buffer does its thing. This speed or lack there-of will be optimised still. In the mean time, I moved my old tablet charger to my desk, and often keep the C43 plugged in.

Thanks Jaymos. I will try to keep my calculator plugged in, when I use it in the office.
