Dummy needs help (again)

Post by rudi »

Now my DM42 is in a strange state, where I can not get out of the DMCP menu. All I can do is switch the calculator on and off, with the "+" key.

I have tried all methods here:
https://technical.swissmicros.com/dm42/ ... date_guide
There's a DMCP_flash_3.23_DM42-3.21.bin and a DM42-3.21.pgm, that I have copied onto the DM42 disk and loaded them, but then my calculator got in this strange eternal DMCP menu state, and still with the WP43S keymapping!!??

How do I bring my calculator back to the normal DM42.
And how do I revert the WP43S keymap back to DM42?
/Rudi

DM-42 (s/n 06999), HP-42S, HP-35s, HP-11c, HP-32SII (ex HP-41CV, ex HP-75C, ex HP-48G + a lot, really lot of a accessories)

Well, the latter is explained in the ReM, bottom of p. 206.

Thanks Walter. Actually I did look and tried some searches in the manual and quick guide, but with no luck.
I’ll have a look at p. 206.

All right - I has a look at p.105 in the reference manual, where it says:
To retrieve the original DM42 keyboard layout (cf. p. 150), copy the file original_DM42_keymap.bin to the DM42 flash disk, rename it keymap.bin and RESET the DM42. Look here for more information: https://technical.swissmicros.com/dmcp/ ... el_manual/
However, I do not find any such file as "original_DM42_keymap.bin" at this link?

It's in the wp43s-dm42-0.22.7.zip file, which you get by clicking on the "Firmware for DM42" link at this site: https://gitlab.com/Over_score/wp43s/-/releases.

Good news, kind of, loaded the "DM42_qspi_3.x.bin" file, and now my DM42 is back in business, except for a wrong key map...

Still searching for the original DM42 keymap file

Thanks, that worked out, after renamming "original_DM42_keymap.bin" to "keymap.bin", as stated in the reference guide.

Btw - in the process of my attempts, involving a "hard reset", this little guy fell out

I just stuck it back in it's hole, and hope for the best...

Well - I suppose, when I have tried this a dozen more times, I can do swap between WP43S and DM42 easily, but still it is kind of Woodo for me. I really need a simple step by step guide and all the needed files.

Well, I've uploaded a refined Reference Manual some hours ago. Look here: https://gitlab.com/Over_score/wp43s/-/b ... Manual.pdf . Please check App. F and try if it's simple enough.

I tried using it a little, but found it too complicated on a DM42 with the mismatching keys. Impossible to use it at work, typed the wrong keys all the time ;-)
So I’m back to a normal DM42 with Free42.
I guess I’ll have to wait for the physical manifestation.
