@rudi: Your results and assessment?
I tried using it a little, but found it too complicated on a DM42 with the mismatching keys. Impossible to use it at work, typed the wrong keys all the time ;-)
So I’m back to a normal DM42 with Free42.
I guess I’ll have to wait for the physical manifestation.
Thanks. I can imagine your difficulties. Though I admit I was more interested in your flashing experience (related to App. F). ;)

Oh - sorry. That went fine. Tried it a couple of times w/o any incidents. This time a bit based on experience and also the guide.

Edit:
When I get the time, I'll try just using the instructions and see how it goes.

Rudi, have you seen the C43 project from Jaymos (if not, see the thread " 43S Alternative key layout --> WP43C")?

Pretty nice to get a taste of WP43s on unmodified and unaugmented original DM42 hardware.

Walter: for what it's worth I found the updated manual clear. My only remarks would be:

- It may be useful to have an explicit "Getting DM42 back to running Free42" section (even if it's just links to SM and the existing keymap section in the reference manual). In my experience, I have found that such sections are very reassuring for folks who want to try something new that can feel risky.

- (unrelated to this): the PDF format supports a "bookmark" feature, which is mostly used for letting PDF readers provide with a handy "table of content" that can be quickly navigated at any time (without having to scroll to the actual table of content in the PDF document). Does the tool you use to generate a PDF file support such a feature? It would be very handy.

Yes, well, actually no. That is - I did indeed notice the C43 and really really loved the key layout, and now I know why :lol:
I'll see if I can find out where to get it from and try installing it on my DM42. Thanks for letting me know...
