Import HP 41 ROM files

Post by Gnimelf »

I have a real HP 41 with a selection to ROM’s. For some time now I have been using i41cx+ and love that a full selection of ROM’s are directly available.

The question is how to get these ROM programs into the DM41L? Can I export the ROM from the i41cx+ and import the resulting MOD file? Or do I need to COPY ROM program into i41cx+ memory, export, and them import the resulting RAW file?

Thx - Bill

Just to help your thread get going. :)

My understanding was that the 41L was fairly maxxed out in memory usage with ~ 4k left. Its why I went for the DM41x (but eventually have to get the 41L due to my Voyager love).

Wasn’t thinking of hardware limits but like the 41L format so was thinking that would be my intro to SM calc’s. I was thing that the 41L would be able to say load a minimum of 4 ROM’s - so in that regard be like a real HP 41cx.

I had not thought about memory constraints. I was thinking that the 41L would be a good companion to the i41cx+ and a good intro to SM calc’s. I was assuming that the 41L would be able to load at least 4 ROM’s like the true HP 41cx.

For the 41L one might be able to selectively choose a module program (extract) and load/save to and fro from your computer programs via the USB. There is a thread discussing the 15L regarding import/export.

The landscape does settle into one's hand nicely. I have a DM15 and love the size.

Landscaping the 41 was the worst thing they could do to it.

In contrast to the 41L, it also has a keyboard layout that matches the landscape format. I think the keyboard layout of the DM41(L) is what is called a Schnapsidee (special form of "crazy idea") in German. This, together with the lack of the possibility of using modules, makes the DM41(L) a very strange object. Fortunately, there is the DM41X.

The DM41L CANNOT have modules installed, it is neither supported or possible.

But as others have pointed out, the DM41X easily lets you use just about all modules, including the exotics like CCD, HEPAX, PPC ROM, etc.

True, but I hope to be able to pick certain programs to load/unload as needed to improve its utility. For example:

TBH I do not need "the works" when doing most field work.
