CAS (Calculator Aquisistion Syndrome)

Post by minimuck »

Hello fellow CalcOholics,

as a Free42 user it's just a couple of weeks ago that I took notice of SwissMicros and now I am suffering from CAS (Calculator Aquisition Syndrome) badly. After some 30 years my CX and 48 can get a well deserved rest now. Just let me thank everyone who donated their time, efforts, knowledge and sweat to make these devices reality, I am overly enjoyed :D

So nobody should mention the number of 11, 12, 15, 16, 28, 41, 42, 49, 40, and 50 sitting on eBay lately.. not that I was browsing or anything.

Even a WP34s there ;)

Haha. Purchasing my HP12c platinum did that for me. I heard about it and wanted to try it out because it's RPN and programmable. I quickly decided that I wanted a DM42 afterwards and bought one and now I have DM16L as well!

Reverse Polish Notation has been like Dvorak for me. I'm used to it now and any calculator without it just feels bad to use. I now mess up the keystroke sequence on algebraic calculators because after only a few months of using RPN my muscle memory is already used to it.

Since CAS is an overloaded term here, I think you’re luckily the forum back end didn’t automatically delete the topic ;)

What sense would lead it to delete?

Just a tongue-in-cheek comment that RPN lovers don't typically approve of CAS (if the math kind). If it's the collecting kind, it's just fine.... :D

I am nothing if not atypical.

When doing the analytical solutions for my Compton scattering labs, in RPN on my 48, it wasn't the Engineering building I directed the beam at.

It was the Business Ed building.

Actually I didn't thought about the pun in the first place, I was simply searching for an appropriate GAS TLA on the subject matter... As soon as I hit submit, I realized what I have done ;)

Edit: Just found out that the thread title can be edited...

If having CAS is wrong, I don't want to be right.

I'm sure it is cheaper to buy a calculator then to find a psychiatrist to get you of CAS
