Hello,
This is my first post here.
Knowing that HP41 and HP42s were similar beasts relative to their usage : classic RPN, programs looking similar (I think)...
So today, how did you choose your SM beast ? Both SM calculators look nice, are fast and have many common functionnalities.
I'm an ex owner of HP11C, HP15C, HP28C/S, HP48SX, and a future owner of a HP50G. In the past I could also have a look on friend's HP41CV at college, and later could I also help my girlfriend using her HP42s. Definitely fan (and nostalgic) of the RPN logic and HP quality calculators.

Re: how did you choose ? (DM41X DM42)
The 42 seems easier to use to me.
Re: how did you choose ? (DM41X DM42)
The answer is simple: you don't have to choose, get both.

Re: how did you choose ? (DM41X DM42)
The DM42 clones the HP-42S which is obviously conceptually more modern than an HP-41Cx/DM41X. Unless you're a hardcore follower of HP-41C, the DM42 will fit your needs better IMO.
WP43 SN00000, 34S, and 31S for obvious reasons; HP-35, 45, ..., 35S, 15CE, DM16L S/N# 00093, DM42β SN:00041
Re: how did you choose ? (DM41X DM42)
You cannot speak here since you turned your DM42 into a WP 43S

Re: how did you choose ? (DM41X DM42)
- That's the best which can happen to a DM42, isn't it?
- But I used my DM42 in its ground state before conversion.

Re: how did you choose ? (DM41X DM42)
I don't disagree with Walter, however this may be more helpful.
If you plan to write your own programs and deep precision and program performance are most important, the DM42 is probably a better machine for you.
If you would rather explore and use the hundreds of available application modules, including modules that continue to be created and refined today, the DM41X is likely the better choice. Also, the DM41X would be better if you are inclined to explore 'system programming' as it supports Synthetic Programming as well as MCODE (assembler coding) in addition to the normal FOCAL keystroke programming language (which is very similar to 42S programming).
But ultimately Massimo's advice is most wise; get both machines and then you can do it all as different urges arise.

I did so, and I have not regretted it.
