BTW, remember this one? https://www.hpmuseum.org/item/product2.htm
So, who was that caller to the store.... be honest now! 🙄

It's easy to calculate the number of functions you can feature if you don't allow for menus. Please compare withe the sum of 15C, 16C, and 12C functions and specify the number of prefix keys you want to spend.

BTW, remember this one? https://www.hpmuseum.org/item/product2.htm
That ad had me fooled for a few seconds! It was very well done.

That store is far older than that call. And also the shop owner is significantly older than the caller AFAIK. 8-)

It's maximised when half the keys are prefix keys....

Most probably true but - as our son used to say - reality factor 0.001...

An even "better" way would be allowing multiple modifiers to be active simultaneously and make all but one key a modifier. That would effectively give you an (n-1) bit binary input with lots of possible functions (and probably a very small user base).

I just hope it's a landscape calculator...
(Landscape is compatible with "entry" level calculator)

Perhaps you are right. Perhaps it is a DM 42 L? There already was a prototype: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=314JMYJEh6k
This would make sense because the 42 has the solve and integrate function included and can handle matrix and imaginary number operations whereas the 41L cannot and there is no way to integrate modules.

You are right, the DM42L fits almost all the specs given by Michael in his video :
+ "Entry level RPN calculator" (because on voyager platform)
+ "Saturn CPU emulation" (HP42s ROM is based on Saturn CPU)
+ "RPN keystroke programmable" (yes it is)
+ "Passed concept stage" (because a prototype is already built)

But Micheal also said...
- with direct access to all funtions without complicated menu structure => and here is where HP42s does not fit

So my question is very simple...
Due to the fact that the Voyager screen certainly does not allow display of X and Y +annonciators + the menus of the HP42s all at the same time (Voyager and HP42s have same resolution screen 132x16)...
... Wouldn't SM build a DM42L based on HP42s ROM, with menus removed (except ALPHA menu)... you just have to use XEQ ALPHA xxx ALPHA instead... just like on a 41 plateform? (or may be menus limited to non XEQ functions)

EDIT: One other way to read my post is
1) take the marvelous HP15C specs/keyboard but with an awful User Interface (OpCodes) and limited memory...
2) plug behind the keys HP42s ROM with it's superbe User Interface, display (menus removed) and memory...
3) OPTIONAL: add Alpha menu, change GSB with XEQ so you can call instructions not "directly available" thru keys...
=> and you have the best entry level RPN calculator!

My guess is that DM42L without menus (or very limited) is the next calculator... and some f/g shift keys are freed and can carry now useful or frequently used instructions ala HP15c platform also...
Did I miss something?

It would not be difficult for the DM15L emulator to decode the opcodes displayed by the 15C rom and to translate them to plain instructions, this is exactly was the Android go15c app does:

But I don't think SwissMicros is working on an evolution of the DM15L, or a DM42L. I think they are working on a brand new model.
