Bob, throw in Saturn/SysRPL compatibility and you've just summarized my pipe dream calculator.
It would certainly be a good platform for NewRPL to run on, too.
We can all dream!

Re: May 2022 Speculations
I don't know the preference of @DM48 but many user, also in some other threads, wrote before that they don't like the keyboard-layout of the 50g (49/50 series). I also like the layout of the 48g much more than that of the 49/50 series.
What I don't understand is the call for "X". Accessory compatibility with cards/modules is not only unrealistic, it also makes no sense.
BTW, I like the decent 48g color scheme much more then the aggressive 48s one (especially the baby-blue is way too bright).

Re: May 2022 Speculations
The 48 was my first HP calculator and I used it from 1994 to current day. I have a few 50Gs and a 49G+. I never got use to the new menus and didn't like the Enter key being moved. CAS was a very nice addition, but nothing I really used a lot of. I did write a program that was specific for the 50G due to the screen and I do like it.
It really comes down to the enter key, keyboard layout and that being my first and favorite HP that I used.
Waiting for SM to release DM42 hardware with one additional row of keys.

Re: May 2022 Speculations
Ye, I know. The layout is a little bit unusual for the hp “style”, but I still love the 50g. The firmware is awesome, the speed of the system too.48GX wrote: ↑Sun Jun 12, 2022 8:23 pmThe 48 was my first HP calculator and I used it from 1994 to current day. I have a few 50Gs and a 49G+. I know that we have some license problem for a DM48/50 but I hope, one day…

Let me install my ROM. Problem solved. That's what everyone does now.
Add the extra row of buttons and have a Plus42. I don't see a downside to adding one row of buttons. I understand an underlying OS would have to be written for this, but one platform would give you a lot more options.

Re: May 2021 Speculations
Have you tried the Plus42? Try pressing [EQN] and then [EDIT], notice the keys, and you will se an effect, that will be hard to implement in a piece of HW.48GX wrote: ↑Thu Jun 16, 2022 3:47 amLet me install my ROM. Problem solved. That's what everyone does now.

PS: I would also love to have a physical Plus42, if it could be done somehow;-)

Re: May 2021 Speculations
The alternate characters could be printed next to the keys. All that's really needed are visual reminders of where to find ( ) [ ] = : on the keyboard.

Yes, if it's only those keys (I havent noticed other), then I guess they could be printed in anothjer color next to the shifted.Thomas Okken wrote: ↑Thu Jun 16, 2022 12:19 pmThe alternate characters could be printed next to the keys. It is just those keys, plus . and , labels for the [.] key, to make the appearance of the key match the state of flag 28 (RDX./RDX,).
