The keypad is vastly improved. Still not perfect. I have read some say it’s better than the HP-42s and I would not say that.
It’s good, but not HP OEM good.
What other device are you going to use if you are an RPN user? This is the best thing going and you have to live with the trade-offs. I have three and will likely order another.

Re: New DM42S hardware
I agree. A good keypad is good enough for me - it doesn't really need to be HP OEM level good.
EDIT: even though I also have to agree with other posters wishing for a more "orange yellow".
I felt free to use your picture and "enhance" the yellow color a little - here is the result:

WARNING: the above link shows a FAKED image of a "new" DM42! The colors on the left hand side unit were artificially made more "orange"!

I like it!
Re: New DM42S hardware
I like it the way I like Halloween. It's too much orange for me on a professional instrument. YMMV.

Re: New DM42S hardware
I don’t understand the obsession with the color of the key/letters.

Re: New DM42S hardware
I don’t either really. As long as they are clear and legible it’s fine. I don’t like garish colors though in general.

Many people don't understand the obsession with calculators in the modern age of smartphone apps and online web apps. Not to mention RPN calculators.

Re: New DM42S hardware
For me the problem is that the secondary functions are more visible than the main ones with such a vivid yellow tint. I think orange is a more sensible option but, again, YMMV.
Re: New DM42S hardware
I think I may try to make a dm42 overlay with the 2nd functions printed in dark orange or maybe even green.
Re: New DM42 hardware
I own a DM42 SN 06765. As far as I can see, there are PCB differences between the old and the new version of the DM42.
E.g. a 100uF 6Volt Al-electrolytic capacitor has been added (see top right corner on the photo) and the R15 resistor seems to be omitted.
Why? Any other modifications?
Best regards,
Nissen
