Does anyone know of a small power bank that does not cut out when it senses the low power draw of the DM42?

Why would you want that?

The DM42 does hardly draw any power. So the battery lasts for years.
I am still on my factory delivered battery.

Expect to change the battery once every few years.

I have an old 2500mAh Xtorm powerbank for the DM41X, never tested with the DM42.
Mainly for use in the train when I want some more speed than with the built in battery.
Maybe the newer models are more intelligent and cut out with low power drain but the old one works well.

Voltaic Systems is making such power banks with Always-on mode.
There may be other manufacturers.

The DM41X has the same hardware as the DM42.

To boost the speed, maybe?

If the DM42 is powered by USB, the CPU's clock gets bumped up from 25MHz to 80MHz.

One reason to use a power-bank might be if you want the faster operation whilst running from USB power?

My naive use doesn't need that, but others' might :)

edit: sorry, Godwin, beat me to it :)

Ok, faster operation makes sense!
