Looking at the growing number of interested individuals (at least 100) selling the WP43 as a crowdfunding project organised by either SM or the designers could take the financial uncertainty away.
Considering it is a work in progress and a device for the aficionado the really interested should have no problem paying before production starts.
This way you also don't need an artificial limit of 50 devices, considering the last hardware iteration with the new keyboard the hardware risk is very low.

I agree. Also I’m curious about the mechanics of crowd funding projects, and would enjoy the opportunity to watch one develop.
