WP43 Pilot Run (Poll!)
Re: WP 43S Pilot Run (Poll!)
Thank you all. But honestly, if we didn't have this thread we'd think hardly anybody is interested in the WP43S since nobody seems to use our SW and test it on PC or DM42 HW - at least we cannot detect any feedback or error reports. This may be a sign of infinite trust in us though I doubt it's a sign of good quality for a scientist or engineer - you shall not believe but check! Looking forward to your messages.

Re: WP 43S Pilot Run (Poll!)
To Walter's point about usage and reports, I have followed this story with interest (see my +1 a while ago). I have not put the firmware on my devices because of usability concerns, primarily that the keys and overlay do not match what is on the calculator. I thought I saw printable versions at one point but I do not know if I still have the dexterity to cut one out with a blade. Toward that end it would be great if there were a keycap and overlay set sold, I can put that on with minimal effort and then use it more frequently.
I recently got the WP43C firmware installed on my DM42, as it has a mode to be largely compatible with my keycaps. That improves usability a huge amount. I have since been working through the manual which is a bit challenging trying to find where the keys/commands are on my version. I did find one bug reported in 43C thread elsewhere.
I should add that it is rare for me to need more than a 4 function calculator anymore in my daily life, but I cannot let go my good calculators since using a 28C and successors (and predecessors, later) in earnest earlier in life.
Thanks, Walter.
PS: I should add, for WP43S, is there any difference if I use DM42 or DM41X hardware? I was thinking of getting another one of one of these for the 43 project to keep the 41 and 42 with their "native" firmwares. All other things being equal, having blue & gold keys on the 41X seems like it might be better.

Re: WP 43S Pilot Run (Poll!)
Hi,
I tried to do with windows simulator of WP43S version 0.20.0 what is written on page 21 of owners' manual:
f P/R
f GTO ..
When I typed in f P/R it switched to program mode and a program 'Prime" showed up. I could type f P/R and one dot, but a second dot was not accepted.
Did I something wrong or is this not yet ready or is it a bug?
Thanks and best regards
Raimund

No, you didn't do anything wrong. But see here: viewtopic.php?p=20387#p20387 and the subsequent post, please.

Re: WP 43S Pilot Run (Poll!)
I would be interested to buy at least one finished unit. I am probably not a good beta tester as I would not use most of the functions.
Re: WP 43S Pilot Run (Poll!)
Both DM42 and DM41X should be equally suited for reflashing. All their keys together are three parts maximum, however, so you can't exchange keys individually. Actually, when you reflash a DM42 you'll need some keytop stickers (see p. 207 of the WP43S Reference Manual) - you'll need significantly more for a reflashed DM41X. When WP43S is ready for distribution, there will be a dedicated keyboard for it (no stickers anymore).NYC41 wrote: ↑Sun May 23, 2021 5:02 pmI should add, for WP43S, is there any difference if I use DM42 or DM41X hardware? Re: WP 43S Pilot Run (Poll!)
In this case another DM42 makes more sense since it is cheaper. (Why is it cheaper...? Hm.) And I will get an upgraded hardware version over my beta version. Thanks. It is not on Amazon US right now it seems...

Even if it were I would not order it there. You can easily place your order directly on swissmicros.com and avoid feeding a monopolist. This forum is full of reports about quick and smooth shipping from Switzerland to the USA.

Re: WP 43S Pilot Run (Poll!)
I totally second that. I've had zero problems with shipments from Swiss Micros, and so many with Amazon that I deleted my account. Lousy packaging and a cumbersome return process is a great combination - for losing my custom.
I believe in free will. Just can't help it.
