Hi everyone,
If you are keeping track of interest in buying the 43S when it eventually goes on sale, then please add me to the number. Wild horses would not prevent me from buying the final product when it does go on sale.
Cheers
Roger
WP43 Pilot Run (Poll!)
Re: WP 43S Pilot Run (Poll!)
+1
I'm very interesting in combine the DM42 hardware and the WP43 software. Running WP43C is already a good approach, but a native WP43S keyboard lettering would be great!
Do you have an outlook, when It could become real?
Thanks,
Tommy V.

Re: WP 43S Pilot Run (Poll!)
The thread here seems to be dead, hopefully the idea not?!
Re: WP 43S Pilot Run (Poll!)
This thread isn't dead. It may have a low breathing rate, however.

Good to hear! But when can we expect a (beta) WP43S/DM device?
Re: WP 43S Pilot Run (Poll!)
You can load current WP-43S software onto a DM-42 or a DM-41x already

Re: WP 43S Pilot Run (Poll!)
Do I take it that since a pilot run is planned, the printed button and surround labels are set in stone by now with optimal naming etc.? And so buyers of a pilot run copy would not be left holding an incorrectly or sub-optimally labeled calculator by future software changes regarding the intended meaning/mnemonic of button labels of the WP 43S?
If so, I should like to sign on for one of the pilot run copies. Please count me in.

Re: WP 43S Pilot Run (Poll!)
Yes, in principle. We are pretty sure that's it for the primary labels now.
Though nothing's really carved in stone as long as no production tools are made (and a change of shifted labels only won't be a show-stopper even after the pilot batch since you could cope with it using an appropriate overlay easily).
Rest assured we (the developers) won't start the pilot run unless we believe all labels are final.
On the other hand, if you think another set of labels will fit your needs better than the present one then try to convince us with a complete alternative set (warning: no guarantee given you'd succeed).
Note, however, that final labels are a necessary but not a sufficient condition for the pilot run.

Re: WP 43S Pilot Run (Poll!)
Walter,
Thank you for the detailed and precise reply, and the reassurance about the labels. Yes, of course, the labels could be changed at any point until the pilot run tools are readied. Changes after that could be accommodated with an overlay on the pilot copies, as you point out. Though in this case quite likely, the OCD streak in me would persuade me to buy a further copy of the WP 43S, with the final labels.
If I think of possible improvements in the interface, I will suggest them. However, as my interest in the WP 43S is more greed than need, I think it unlikely that I can come up with any. I understand that the more functionality that is packed into a necessarily size-limited device, the harder it is to design an outstanding interface and that compromises are inevitable.

Re: WP 43S Pilot Run (Poll!)
Just a short status report:
- For manual mode, almost everything is implemented and running. Feel free to test it yourself. Release 0.20.9 is here.
- For programming, almost nothing is implemented. Sorry, neither program editing nor executing programs so far.
- We're working on the contents of ADV. SLVQ runs for long. SOLVE is running but lacks program support.
- The contents of EQN and PRINT are missing completely so far. Several other menus are populated incompletely still.
