... especially to our early friends down under.
Hey, we're not kids! Shouldn't it be Frohe Weihnachten? :D
You better request a dictionary for next Christmas... ;)

Or learn a second language beyond Google Translate (heaven beware! ) ... Sorry, just a suggestion. 8-)
I got it from my Grandmother whose first language was German. Once I tried to greet her in her native language. I said Fröhliche Weihnachten to her and that's what she told me. Maybe that's how they talk in Titz. I know she didn't grow up in the shadow of Piz Palü (see: Inglorious Basterds)

In our dialect here we also say: "Frohe Winachte" and not fröhlische!

Like in Swiss "frohe Wiinachte". But both "froh" and "fröhlich" may translate to "merry".

I honestly don't remember whether we used to say "Frohe Weihnachten" or "Fröhliche Weihnachten" at home, back in the days when we all still spoke German at home, before my brother and I switched to Dutch, our parents eventually following suit as well. I do remember the Christmas carol "O Du Fröhliche," though. :) And the words are, to the best of my knowledge, largely synonymous, except "froh" also has the meaning "relieved" that "fröhlich" doesn't have, as in, "Ich bin froh dass die Gäste endlich weg sind." :D
