I always do the update with the standard procedure, so my DMCP firmware is still at v3.15.

Since there is no reassignment of the (HW) keys, the updates can be done like with the original DM software. Except, of course, that a warning will appear that the software is not original DM42 software.

From the WP43C you return to the DMCP system with f[+/-] (MODE) g[F1] (SYSTEM).

Dani was a bit quicker ;-)

To see it done on video, refer to this vid that I made last year.

Forward to 20:20 (to skip the boring stuff) for a demo to load the DM42 as well as the WP43C.

Thanks, guys!

I managed to load the latest .pgm file, but now I am lost in the setup menu - pressing [EXIT] just switches the calculator off, and switching on just returns me to the same menu. Any tip?

Solved it: Menu option 2. Run Program got me back.

Just tried long pressing [<-] to clear the stack for the first time. I could get used to this myself! :-)

Running the latest 43C .pgm on my DM42 is actually quite pleasant!

I have not tested everything yet, but it has plenty of features and feels responsive enough (kudos, 43S core team), and it is useable - and testable - today, on my unmodified DM42 (ditto, Jaymos and Dani).

What's not to like? :D

I notice that the HOME menu goes away when I press [EXIT]. Is this intended?

Short answer: Yes.
And long answer: No.

Yes. It is like that, as per current design, bearing in mind the 43C menu flow is not properly designed yet.

I have that design on hold until at least 43S MyMenu will come from Martin, and that may be a while still as he is not into UI issues now, but mostly function development (IMO).

And No. It will change.
The issues to redesign are:

1. the base screen content, ie which menu (or none) should show when you press [Exit] up to 14 times ;-). The 43C (additional to the 43S), has a base screen setting that can choose the HOME menu to be here as opposed to nothing or MyMenu).

2. the annoyance that currently the 43S and 43C clear the menu history when any menu is called from a non-FN key (this is probably temporary behaviour pending further thought). That is, menus called from Softmenus (the black inverted ones) are stacked, so if you press [Exit] you go back one level. All keys like MODE, DISP, STAT,... cancel the entire 14 deep history and [Exit] takes you back to no menu on screen.

The 43C needs emphasis on menu flow and I like the LIFO menu stack. I believe this will resolve into a direction when Walter and Martin get to do MyMenu. So I am hesitant to redesign it prior to that. That is why it is paused.

Comments on what works and works not, welcome.

Edit: added the last comma ;-)

SHOW is a rather myopic experience, but I guess that's from the 43S code?

PS: I pressed FN1 for pi, then f[SHOW].
