WP43 Alternative key layout --> C43
Re: 43S Alternative key layout --> WP43C
How many label-less programs do you expect longer than 1000 steps?
WP43 SN00000, 34S, and 31S for obvious reasons; HP-35, 45, ..., 35S, 15CE, DM16L S/N# 00093, DM42β SN:00041
Re: 43S Alternative key layout --> WP43C
Indeed! But I have always found jumping via indirect addressing inelegant.
Correction: indirect jumping to a line number does not exist, I just checked...
On the other hand, Free42/Plus42 do allow GTO .nnnn

Re: 43S Alternative key layout --> WP43C
Wrt the recent post by Walter (in 43S News) about WP43S 0.22.8, my question is whether the functional changes mentioned will (as a matter of course or selectively) be incorporated in 43C?
Specifically:
Specifically:
- Alpha input mode starting in lower case for editing equations and creating variables;
Refined naming rules for items;
I/O paradigm is going to be file oriented;
Improved consistency of ASSIGN;
Refined LNΓ.

Yes, yes and yes.
Let me answer in greater detail to clarify to the greater audience:
All changes to WP43S are worked in as they become available (provided time is available), including all those changes listed above. We import all changes except those which we purposely already changed, such as the key layout, the way the case, case lock & num lock work, POLAR/RECT, HOME menu, some calculator display options, some menu changes, as well as fundamental changes such as BASE mode, DRG, DMS, .ms, and a host of smaller things.
As we speak the C43 is already updated with the above (at GitLab), but I haven’t had the time to release, as my spare time is currently occupied with the STAT/Histogram function dev for WP43S (which if course will be integrated back into C43 once done). This is part of my commitment to implement STAT/graphing and STAT/LR to the 43 platform.

Re: 43S Alternative key layout --> WP43C
Thank you, it is becoming clearer what belongs to the "base 43 platform" and what can be considered specific for either the 43S or the C43.
This is helpful for better understanding of what the two variations are all about (even though I suppose the WP43S and the base platform will be seen as one and the same by many).

Re: 43S Alternative key layout --> WP43C
With DISP set to SIG 3, entering 100 1/x results in display of 0.01 000 00, whereas entry of 0.01 results in display of 0.010 00.
This is both with the hardware and the simulator (version of 24-8).

Re: 43S Alternative key layout --> WP43C
Weird. To the bug list it goes (which incidentally is here for post 108_00 bugs):
Interestingly:
SIG 3
0.01 ENTER gives 0.010 00 while
100 1/x gives 0.010 000 00 this puzzles me but I will get to the bottom of it.

Re: 43S Alternative key layout --> WP43C
Just for information, I can see the same on the latest release (2022-08-21_C43_108_00). Both if the 1/x operation is done before and after SIG 3.
It's an interesting mode, I hadn't seen it before. A nice compromise between FIX and SCI.
Re: 43S Alternative key layout --> WP43C
The UNIT mode is also interesting, where you can input e.g. 1.23 x 10^3 and the calculator will display 1.230 k
(for UNIT 3)
This works from f (10^-15) to T (10^12), so f..p..n..mu..m..k..M..G..T

Re: 43S Alternative key layout --> WP43C
An annunciator for SIG mode might be wise, if at all possible, to facilitate correct interpretation of results (significant digits may be unfamiliar to some unsuspecting users, perhaps).
