Re: 43S News
Another question, and please forgive my ignorance: Why are the menu keys labled F1-F6? Are they ever used for anything else than what's shown directly above them on the display? I always felt like numbered function keys are kind of a crutch, because on most keyboards you cannot dynamically change the labels, but I find the 43S' UI design quite elegant, and not in need for "named" menu keys. That is, of course, if there's no use case where you need to refer to a specific key without having the menu part of the display available.
Edit: PS: My first thought was "the blank keys of the DM42 look nicer", but on second thought, the F-keys are fine, too. If there was a discussion about this topic that I missed or forgot about, I'd be grateful for a pointer, but otherwise feel free to disregard.

Re: 43S News
In the RM for version 0.22.8 it is stated on page 122: "With startup default settings, the multiplication dot is found here and the multiplication cross is called via f x in AIM. If MULT× is clear, however, this dot is called via f x in AIM and the multiplication cross via [alpha MATH. The symbols : [colon] and ÷ [obelus] will swap, too.
However, I am unable to input a colon using the method of setting/clearing MULT×. It seems there is no (other) way to enter a colon.
My questions are:
1. is this a bug?
2. is there another way to enter a colon.

1. Yes it is. Thanks for reporting!RJvM wrote: ↑Tue Sep 20, 2022 8:45 pm"With startup default settings, the multiplication dot is found here and the multiplication cross is called via f x in AIM. 2. Not yet. Might change.

And by analogy, Asterus is for the multiplication symbol
Re: 43S News
These labels were introduced in May: viewtopic.php?p=23166#p23166. AFAICS, there was no discussion here but in GitLab, issue #1097.gmac42 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 20, 2022 11:37 amAnother question, and please forgive my ignorance: Why are the menu keys labled F1-F6? Re: 43S News
I’ve been dropping in to this thread for a couple of years now. I’m very impressed with the work Walter and team is doing and by following along have gained a greater understanding on the complexity and detail of developing these computing platforms from a hardware and software perspective.
Is the intent to release this as a dedicated machine? If so, is there a target date for release? Will it be marketed by SM? I have indicated in another thread my intent to buy at least one when available.
I managed to buy a fully assembled WP34s awhile back and I want a 43s as well.
