Just to point out the features of the alternatives once more:
  • Option 1 grants you direct access to y^x all the time. If and when you need any of the functions contained in EXP then you need 2 keystrokes to open this menu.
    .
  • With option 2 you need 2 keystrokes for y^x first, thereafter you have direct access to y^x as long as EXP remains open. Opening EXP costs 1 keystroke only.
All the other keys but key 2 behave equally in both options. Option 2 opens space for Pauli's proposal, if wanted.

Option 1 because at least there is one function accessible with only one keystroke.

But I like very much the @pauli proposal as well ...

Since e^x, LN, and x^2 don't count, of course...

obviously, I meant for this key ...
sorry to make you confused with my poor english

the other functions do count of course but one more is nice IMHO

On the other hand, I also like the symmetry with the next key TRI ...
so option 2 is nice for me too, especially with suggestion of @pauli

Option #3 makes most sense to me.

Option #2 plus the extension posted by @pauli concerning "add a new menu for elliptic functions.", if possible, please.
Thanks! You are doing great stuff ! :thumbs up:

I don't really count x^2, I use square root far more often. To my mind x^2 is for programs, ENTER * is a nice and quick sequence and I rarely need to maintain the top of stack when I'm computing by hand.

Good morning world! The unshifted x^2 is present since December 2019... but we may discuss this as well.

Well, world, and Walter, if this discussion is opened again... (WWW ;) )

Firstly, I also find I use the EXP more often than y^x, but still want direct access to y^x with and without menu, so I choose option 2.

Secondly, there is no reason why we can't have the elliptical functions either higher up in the EXP menu duplicated to the TRI menu (as are the hyperbolic functions are also a bridge), or have them in a separate menu. To keep the EXP and TRI menus short (i.e. not scrolling) there could be a case for menu links HYP and ELLIP from within TRI and EXP, similar in the way the secondary menu P.FN2 is called from within P.FN (for different reasons though).

Then, if the poll extends to square root as it seems, I way prefer square root accessible than square. Fully in support of Pauli earlier. Also see how the Fathers in their wisdom did that in 11C, 15C, 42S, 41C, 35S, 38*, 48*, 50* ...
