Thank you, but this points to a DM42 image, not to a Windows simulator.
[/quote]

Sorry about that Jaymos, I did not read your note closey enough. I had just been on that page minutes before and thought I had somehow just seen the answer to your questions.

Hopefully, the Windows version will change to not require installing the run-time system, etc...

I'm afraid it won't. But I will take a little care of it (since I work with Windows I think it won't become 5 months delay again). In case of emergency, just nudge me. ;)

Thanks to Pauli and Martin, we think we have a pretty precise solver of quadratic equations implemented now. I updated wp43s.exe just a few minutes ago. Run it, call SLVQ and check!

Here's the Christmas edition of the 43S layout:

See the orange marks for UI refinements since July. We've introduced named system flags like ALPHA or LOWBAT instead of cryptic HP-42S flags 48 or 49. Thus, SF and CF are now also on the keyboard for spontaneous calls (in addition to FLAGS granting easier access for repeated use of SF and CF). Please look up the manuals v0.14 for recent evolutions. Will take some time to update the software though - you'll get an improved wp43s.exe to play with on your DM42 as soon as we've got it.

Addendum: Will swap the shifted labels of [6] so we'll have only blue angles.

Hello. I am a new-be here. What draws me here is that I am a calculator conersuer (not sure if it is spelled correctly) of hand-held calculators. My calculator collection is quire modest but yet powerful.

I have the HP48SX, HP48GX, HP 50G, and soon to have the DM42S. I had the HP Prime and the TI CAS CX, which I sold both off recently because of lack of use, and that both calculators got an overhaul of more powerful processors and with more memory for the HP Prime. I admit I love the graphing aspect of math, but I dont really use it in the calculators. I would still love having the capability. I am contemplating whether to get the new and improved speed versions of them.

I also have a Casio Scentific Calcuator going back to 1984. Growing up, I had a love for Sharp and Casio Scientific Calculators in my high-school years. I never understood the fascination of the TI Scientific Calculators in comparison because they looked to lack functions that the Sharp and Casio offered. I only knew about HP calculators when I got into my college years after seeing other math students using them.

My question here is what would be the difference between the DM42 versus the DM43S ? I seen questions about how far the decimal place should go and how many significant digits would be enough. My vote is to have the calculator display as many as 1 quadrilion significant digits. I know its overkill, but remember why we buy these things... for speed and accuracy !!! But if that is not possible, I can be humble in my needs. 16 to 32 significant digits of accuracy should be a starting point for the DM43S.

A wishlist of questions I have is:

Would it have symbolic computing and symbolic expressions - say if one computed 2 * pi. Would the answer be in digits, or would it be 2PI ?

Would it do derivatives ?

Can the calculators be flashed by the user via USB with updates ? And can you program the calculator on the computer and upload the program into the calculator ?

And is there a timetable on when the calculator would be released ?

If I think of anything else, I will be sure to post it.

Thanks !!!

There are many differences between the DM42 and DM43S but the biggest difference between them right now is the DM42 can be purchased while the DM43S cannot. Yet. I'd guess that the initial 43S will be available ~1.5-2 years from now, possibly less. Once it is available, the 43S will offer many more capabilities than the 42, and will utilize a new/unique RPN programming 'language' based on that found in the WP34S. It is broadly similar to RPN keystroke languages found in HP machines, with differences to accommodate the improvements the 43S offers.

If you prefer something very close to an HP, get the DM42. If you prefer more power and capabilities, and can wait, get the DM43S.

Of course the correct solution is to get both, 42 now and 43S later, when complete.

You should check out the superb and exhaustive 43S manuals now, to better understand what it will offer. The manuals are in flux as the product evolves but still far more complete than most product manuals, even well after their associated product is complete.

Answers:
  1. That's a great question. Please consult the draft manuals here: https://gitlab.com/Over_score/wp43s/tre ... umentation.
  2. Depends. You can express angles as multiples of π, and the 43S will return angles this way (you can do this already - just try). But the 43S will not contain a CAS.
  3. Yes, first and second. Numerically.
  4. Yes. Actually, you can do this already.
  5. Yes. But that's not implemented yet.
  6. No. Timetables for hobbyist's projects are a hoax. We don't have any. Please read this thread from the beginning and you'll get an idea of the challenges of such a project. Read the Release Notes of the manuals for more.
Thanks for asking!

Thanks very much. I know I could go through the begining, however it is 52 pages long, its a bit lengthy for me to go through at this time, hence I just posted the questions I had off the top of my head. I am looking forward to reading the comparisons of the DM42S and the WP43 as time frees up. I am also looking forward to getting my DM42S, and when the WP43 is released some time in the next couple of years or so.

Oh -

I forgot to ask -

Will the WP43S be able to perform base conversions like that of the HP16C - Binary, Octal, Hex, Decimal ?

And would one be able to perform mathematical computations such as + - * / while in each base ?

Will it have Bitwise Gate Logic Operations such as AND, OR, XOR, Inverse - (NOR, NAND) Shift Left, Shift Right ?

Thanks again !!!

I am looking forward to the WP43S being the be-all, end-all of calculators. And I expect it to be so fast, that when a computation is performed, a puff of smoke comes out of it, leaving other calculators in the dust. Like how road-runner takes off !!!
