WP43 News

Post by Walter »

Design is asymptotically approximating stability. Some relations to the UI of WP 34S are present still:
.

.
Labels underlined point to menus. Menus will be shown in the lower third of the screen, allowing up to 18 menu items displayed at once (up to 6 unshifted, up to 6 f-shifted, and up to 6 g-shifted). Menu names should be self-explanatory except U-> for unit conversions and L-> for angular conversions.

Coloured labels to the right of keys refer to alpha input mode. Therein, blue M is a menu of mathematical symbols, . is for punctuation, and I for international letters. Golden up arrow is for superscripts and down arrow (surprise!) for subscripts.

A stack of four or eight levels will be supported. Up to four stack levels or seven program steps may be displayed at once. There will be data types (reals, two kinds of integers, angles, times, dates, complex numbers, matrices, alpha strings, and some more). Any object of any type will take one storage space (e.g. one register).

Right now, writing an emulator/simulator is in progress.

Hmmh, I didn't expect it to be as breathtaking. :o ;) Something similar has been announced for quite a while. Please feel free to ask questions, comment, suggest changes, praise, condemn, etc.

Small suggestion Walter - post this latest keyboard layout along with a couple screen shots (using the current DM42 LCD) so folks can see them together. It seems many people cannot understand the various shift planes without actual sample screens to illustrate.

There have clearly been a lot of refinements, but it takes a lot of time to absorb it all. Also, why is the red "X" present?

Thanks for sharing this update.

I am really looking forward to this calculator becoming a reality. Can you tell us more about the progress on the emulator?

I'm the programmer of this simulator (it's not an emulator).
At the moment there is nothing really that I can show. I've been on the project for 3 months and I think I've done less than 25% of the work. It must be said that the 43S manual is much much denser than the 34S manual.
Okay, I understand your impatience, so just one screenshot:

Wow! Good news! Can we look at code (and possibly, at some point, maybe contribute)?
What is the metric tensor in imperial units?

Two more screens of today, calculating Galileo's drop test as published in the HP-27(A) Owner's Manual:

1) Accumulating data: Screen after last [Sigma+]:

2) Fitting a curve using BestF: Screen after L.R.:

All pretty preliminary.

Exactly what I meant Walter, thanks!

These obviously help to better understand and visualize the 43S, and will help to fast-forward the folks that aren't familiar with either the 34S that has been delivered, or the scope of the 43S yet to come.

How long before people start asking 'how long' ?

If the 34S is a guide, a couple of years to go :(

Nice work so far! One small suggestion: show the equation underneath where it says "Power*", if there is room.

EDIT: I mean the equation with the a0 and a1 coefficient symbols in it, not an equation with the numeric coefficients, just as a reminder of what the coefficient symbols represent.
