Question :
I can't find a way to use the PI constant in the equation editor other than with "acos(-1)" in radients mode,
which is not very practical. :?:
Answer:
Please EDIT the equation, move the cursor where you want to insert it, turn to lower case and press [g][P]. Works like a charm. 8-)

(This will work with other constants in full analogy, BTW.)

Oui, bien sûr. Merci

But the charm is broken by seeing \(\pi\)/4 considered as a variable :?:

It is even possible to assign any value to it! Iznogoud has been there.

Strange. π·4 works correctly. You've found a true bug - 19 points more on your account!

Dividing any constant by a real number produces the same bug.
I take this opportunity to reiterate the lack of userfriendliness when introducing constants.
Why not make the CONST menu available in AIM?

Because of user friendliness, we feature AIM and don't confuse with AIF, whatever the latter may be. In AIM, key [3] calls Y, [f]+[3] calls 3, and [g]+[3] calls Greek Y consistent with functionality of the other keys in this area. People who don't know the spelling of the constant they need should not call it (but are allowed to look ahead before opening EQN). Further wishes?

I don't know why my autocorrect turned AIM into AIF?
But that's not the point, you didn't answer my question. Why don't you hear what you don't like?

If you hold your calculator in your hand and need to enter a constant among the 78 existing ones, you can't go home to consult RefMan on your computer! And if you can, you don't need your calculator.
Therefore we should learn by heart not only the spelling of these 78 constants but also the font lower or upper case or normal or subscript used?
Be more serious in your reasons.

What did you click to get this? (([rant]... [/rant]))

I’m used to keystroke programming on the 42S and 34s where everything is available on the keyboard or through menus or catalogs. Same with the HP 48 or the Prime. The only exception is the 41C where you have to spell the functions which are not on the keyboard when calling them with XEQ if they are not assigned to a user key, but the number of functions on the 41C is much lower than on the 43s and I know them by heart, having used the 41 since 1980.
Btw when entering an equation on the 27S all functions are available on the keyboard or through menus.
So, yes I find it tedious to have to spell everything when entering an equation.

I agree, when needing to employ not frequently-used features/variables/etc. it is much better to be able to select them from menus. Walter finds his recommended solution easy to recall and use because it came from his mind, so it's not unusual to see his reluctance to change. Hopefully several folks here all confirming this should be reconsidered will have enough weight to do so, if you agree, please comment.

If not changed, features which are non-intuitive or difficult to recall/use, like this, will simply go little- or fully unused; it would be a shame to hamper the excellent 43S for something like this, and after all, isn't early user testing's goal exactly to find issues like this, while workarounds are still possible?

+1

While I have no problem remembering what I can remember, I struggle remembering what I don't. This won't be my only calculator either, I'm still going to be keeping and using my other ones. Just because.
