I had to make do with a simple photo editor so I just focused on the area around the display. I am sure that someone more design-savvy than me can elaborate if the basic idea gets accepted. I agree that the white stripe across the function keys should go also, if the white frame around the display is replaced with a black one.ijabbott wrote: ↑Sat May 05, 2018 6:34 pmYes, it looks weird with the black/white split across the background.keithdalby wrote: ↑Sat May 05, 2018 9:15 amH2X's scheme gets my vote, but perhaps with black around the function keys too.
I think black or grey function keys would look better too.

I believe in free will. Just can't help it.
Re: 43S News
The setup of the display area is easily recognized with the DM42: The LCD features an (alas) inevitable black frame; for LCD protection, gorilla glass is glued on top of it; to hide the glue line, the downside of the gorilla glass is printed black leaving a rectangular transparent window for the LCD.zx_spectrum wrote: ↑Sat May 05, 2018 1:19 pmi don't really get it; why is everybody against a plastic LCD bezels ??!! (just like 48g or 42s)
i really do think it is way more attractive and authentic than the glossy smart-phone-like black gorilla glass
I think that's the easiest way to take care of the functionality required. So there will be gorilla glass covering the LCD of the 43S as well. The print on its downside, however, shall be changed to mark the shifted softkey lines by golden and blue stripes. In course of this change, also other print modifications are almost for free. These may be used e.g. for highlighting the connection of the menu keys to the display, in particular to its softkey section (cf. the HP-48).
Anything else (like the 'plastic bezels' mentioned by zx-spectrum) would add cost.

Progress is a snail, as late Nobel laureate Günter Grass wrote. Though anyway, we can proudly report that a 43S simulator is slowly rising under Windows. Not good enough for the community yet but nice for playing, checking output, and hunting bugs. There will be something to present in Allschwil.
. And before you ask: Display resolution of my laptop is too low to show a portrait simulator but it exists And yes, output format is ENG 3 here - we got rid of the f... 10^0.

Looking damn good, I wish I were able to attend the Allschwil meeting.
Thanks to Walter, Pauli and whoever else is contributing! (Marcus too? - simply don't know whom I should be thanking).
