WP43 Alternative key layout --> C43
Re: 43S Alternative key layout --> WP43C
What is the metric tensor in imperial units?
Re: 43S Alternative key layout --> WP43C
Nope - right is right
Right?

Re: 43S Alternative key layout --> WP43C
Fair question. Short answer is no.
Long answer is that the bezel project completely halted for 2 full years and we re-started the engineering effort again recently. We do not have schedule commitments from all the parties and the factory as yet.
We do have faint hope though for a few months from now. Let’s hold the thumbs.

Re: 43S Alternative key layout --> WP43C
I usually prefer arithmetic keys on the right, but after using a "left" calculator for a short while, I recently realized that it really didn't matter much.
Both layouts are very well thought. I have a preference for the 43S because of the individual shift buttons and maybe a better grouping of similar functions, but it's a hard choice. The 43C has more directly available operations that I find essential like x^2 (even though it's shifted and SQRT is direct), y^x and the trigonometric functions, but the user mode should fix that for me.

This image raises a few (superficial) questions about the C43 layout:Jaymos wrote: ↑Fri Aug 12, 2022 6:59 pmLet's place the layouts next to one another - I have not done a pic like that for some time - in fact way before the last changes were done on the key layouts on both sides:
Clipboard04.png
(Note that the line on the C43 screen is a Windows artifact: the shift key picks up and shows the f- then the g- shift line in succession on the calculator simulator when I press Shift-Windows-S to capture the screen grab ! )
1. Why are the letters "N" and "Y" white, while the other letters are grey?
2. Why are COS and TAN underlined in orange and blue (respectively)?
3. It's difficult to know which keys bring up menus because the black background of their labels on the bezel is very hard to see against the very dark grey (brown?) of the rest of the bezel -- more contrast seems called for!
Re: 43S Alternative key layout --> WP43C
Usually, i.e. when you print, write, or read mathematical functions, many are lower case, like sin, cos, arctan, sinh, arcosh, ln, e^x, lg, etc. We kept most of them this way on the WP43S.redglyph wrote: ↑Fri Aug 12, 2022 8:37 pmWell, I've never written SIN and COS either, but functions are usually upper-case on calculators keys for the sake of clarity (is it specified that it must be lower-case?). I wouldn't worry too much about that.
PS: Seeing 'ln' and 'lg' as the only lower-case functions makes me thing they behave differently, actually.
