Your images are not visible (at least to me) but in about 98% of cases like this, the cause is a USB cable that is not seated deeply enough in the micro-USB slot, or less commonly, a bad cable. It's not impossible that a h/w issue exists, but only a very, very few (<<10) cases have turned out to true h/w issues. Depending on the shape of your cable near the device end, it may help to trim some of the plastic on the head to allow the connector to insert more deeply, or another solution is to use a micro-USB cable with extra long connector (available on Amazon, not really more expensive).

Hmmm... strange, the images are on DropBox and I never heard about others that couldn't see my DropBox images?

Yes - know about this, see viewtopic.php?f=20&t=3192
I am using a good quality and "modded" cable, and I am almost 100% certain that it was plugged all the way in.
I just figured, that the "Reg Id d37770002, fw 3.23" could be usefull for some debugging?
The fw 3.23 is the firmware version I guess?
The Reg Id, is that the address in the fw, where the OS crashed?

I can't see images in your post, so could not comment on them.

After resetting the device and restoring your device (and formatting FAT if it was damaged) does the DM42 behave normally?

Although a handful of devices have had verified h/w issues, to date, no problems have been reproduced or verified to have come from unstable USB disk mode, which is why I'm suggesting other causes.

Thanks Bob. No other issues encountered since the last hiccup. The device is working fine. I was guessing it was caused by an software issue. I was not touching the calculator or USB cable when it happened, but I deleted a file named PRIME.raw in the DM42’s PROGRAMS folder in Win11 File Explorer and immediately after copied another version of PRIME.raw to the PROGRAMS folder. Then File Explorer immediately closed, as if I had exited the USB Disk mode. But as mentioned above, I hadn’t touched the calculator. When I did look at the DM42, it had froozen.

Edit:
Strange with the images, what platform and OS are you viewing this forum from, if I may ask?

I'm using Firefox on Windows. I do see the images in the post just above.

When the DM42 is in USB disk mode, there is no (SM) software running at all, it's just a slave mode supported by a library for the underlying chipset. While I can't say 100% that it's impossible that library has a problem, it's never been reported. I'd say just keep an eye on it.

If you do a lot of USB comms, consider the USB cable with extra long tip, $6.99 Prime from Amazon, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013CX6XO8

FWIW, I use Firefox under Windows10 and have absolutely no problems to see Rudi's images. So the problem may live either in the specific flavor of Windows or ... 8-)

Thanks Walter. I have shared thousands of images this way the past decade without any problems, so I also wonder why Bob can't see them.

Well - I wanted to be a little ahead, if this system reset should be nesecary again, so I decided to try and save the calculator state, so that I dont have to go through all the tedious setup of display, time/date etc.

But immediately when I had entered the name "RUDI" for the state and pressed enter, the DM42 showed this message:
20220512-05051871.bmp
20220512-05051871.bmp (12.31 KiB) Viewed 2726 times
The same message are shown, each time I try to load this state.

The filestate generated is attached here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/fbb21tz24xmckja/RUDI.f42?dl=0

Edit:
Just now a couple of minutes later, after overwriting the RUDI.f42 state file, it no longer seems to be corrupt.

Overwriting a state file will indeed correct the corruption as a new file is written properly. That said, when the system crashed, it's possible the FAT was corrupted, which can manifest itself in many ways including corrupted state files. If the state of the FAT is suspect of being damaged, it's best to format the FAT using the DMCP menu and then rebuilding the various folders. A PITA for sure, but it ultimately may be your best move, rather than find and fix the issues one by one as you discover what else may have been corrupted.

It's possible the only damages done was that one state file, but if you see any other unexpected issue, I'd suggest formatting and rebuilding. Once that's done, you can make a simple backup by just copying the entire FAT contents (with all folders) somewhere.
