non-voluntary durability test

Post by rudi »

The other day, I was in a hurry, and while walking through our hallway, had to pull my DM42 out of its holster, in which it fits very tightly. When I pulled out the calculator with my index finger and thumb, I lost grib of it, and flung it about two meters through the air; it almost flew like a frees-be and landed on the back side and slided another two more meters over our tiled floor. I let out a lot of cursing, but I quickly found out, that the DM42 was undamaged!!! Not even a scratch on the aluminium casing! And it is working 100% as it should. Thanks SwissMicro, for the sturdy design!!

Meh, my original HP 15c has survived much worse. The HP 35 reportedly survived a trip through a snow-blower in freezing temperatures. I'm not surprised that it was not scratched on a smooth tile floor. Try doing this on rough concrete and see what happens, it won't be pretty.

It's not aluminium, but stainless steel.

Call you lucky it didn't land on the front side! I still wonder how an object with the aerodynamic properties of a DM42 could fly like a frisbee though...

Well - perhaps it more flew like a brick doesn’t ;-)

Anybody know about a suitable bumper that will fit a DM42?
Had a near miss incident today, where I dropped the calculator when I enthusiastically was explaining a colleague something at the whiteboard, luckily I managed to catch the DM42 with my other hand!
I have tried looking at various phone bumpers, but they all have rounded corners.

Rudi, skyhooks... they work great.

DooDoo happens. Your concern happens with me all the time, even just moving the calc from a->b. Just a simple slip.

I guess it's just a matter of time.

I have no idea what "skyhooks" are (in this context). Do you have a link?
